Tema del Corso: Il linguaggio tra condizioni di verità e condizioni d'uso.
Sulla scia del Corso precedente dedicato al relativismo semantico, questo del 2021/22 è orientato all'acquisizione di conoscenze sulla discussione filosofico-linguistica contemporanea intorno al nesso/conflitto tra concezione verocondizionale e concezione a condizioni d'uso del significato linguistico. Lo si farà centrando l'attenzione sul trattamento semantico degli espressivi - a partire dal famoso contributo "The Meaning of Ouch and Ooops" di David Kaplan sul finire degli anni '80 del secolo scorso - in alcune recenti proposte di semantica multidimensionale. Si considererà quindi criticamente la consistenza epistemologica dell'integrazione di verocondizionalità e condizioni d'uso in questi modelli unitari di spiegazione semantica.
Course title: Language between truth conditions and use conditions.
In the wake of last year course that was devoted to semantic relavism, this course (2021/22) aims at providing knowledges on the contemporary debate in philosophy and linguistics on the relation/conflict between the truth-conditional and the use-conditional understanding of linguistic meaning. We will focus on the semantic analysis of expressives - starting from the David Kaplan's seminal contribution "The Meaning of Ouch and Ooops" at the end of the eighties - in some recent proposals based on multidimensional semantics. We will critically address then the epistemological consistency of the integration of truth and use conditions in the unitary models for semantic explanation.

The knowledges acquired by the student will be assessed during the oral exam. Before the exam, the student will have to submit an essay on a relevant theme of the course chosen together with the teacher.
Lo studente potrà acquisire conoscenze su temi centrali nel dibattito contemporaneo in filosofia del linguaggio e, in modo organico, sulla vexata quaestio del rapporto tra analisi a condizioni d verità e spiegazioni a contesti d'uso del significato linguistico.
The student will acquire knowledges on central themes in the contemporary debate in the philosophy of language and, in an organic way, on the vexata quaestio of the relation between the analysis in terms of truth conditions and explanations in terms of contexts of use linguistic meaning.
Lo studente dovrà presentare prima della prova orale una relazione scritta su un tema concordato con il docente.
During the oral exam the student will give a powerpoint presentation of one of the relevant themes discussed in the course.
Lo studente potrà acquisire maggiore familiarità con i requisiti richiesti per una ricerca scientificamente adeguata relativa a questioni epistemologiche oggi centrali in filosofia del linguaggio e, più in generale, nella discussione attuale intorno a modelli unitari di spiegazione semantica.
The student will get familiar with the requirements for a scientifically adequate research on some epistemological questions that are central to the philosophy of language today and, more in general, on the actual debate on unitary models of semantic explanation.
Buona parte della letteratura in lingua inglese e preparazione di elaborati costituiscono elementi per verificare l'acquisizione di una maggiore familiarità con i requisiti richiesti per una comprensione e/o produzione scientifica e/o una professionalizzazione di portata internazionale.
The fact that part of the bibliography of the course is in English and the fact that students are required to prepare papers during the course allow to assess the acquisition on their part of the familiarity with the scientific understanding/production and the ability to internationally professionalize.
Non sono richieste particolari propedeuticità. Naturalmente una certa conoscenza di base linguistica e/o logica può agevolare il percorso formativo.

L'esame è costituito da una prova orale nella quale lo studente sarà a colloquio con i docenti.
La prova orale è avviata dalla presentazione del testo in powerpoint preparato dallo studente su un tema rilevante del corso. Segue poi un colloquio relativo alle conoscenza acquisite dallo studente sui testi d'esame e l'eventuale bibliografia di contorno.
The exam is oral. The student will be examined by the teachers.
The colloquium will start with the power point presentation on one of the relevant themes of the course. The rest of the colloquium will assess the student's knowledge of the course bibliography.
