Conoscenze

Knowledge

The course aims at providing a solid background in mathematics for economic studies. Particular attention will be given to economic applications. At the end of the course, the student will extend his/her mathematical knowledge related most of the mathematical tools he/she will meet in his/her advanced economic courses.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

Student's knowledge will be verified  by means of a written exam

  • fare proprie tecniche dimostrative
Skills

At the end of the course, the student will be more confident in his/her mathematical abilities. This skill will help him/her in the other courses of his/her economic program.

Moreover, he/she will be able to

  • solve mathematical exercises
  • use mathematical tools for understanding and analysing economic models
  • performing computations with accuracy
  • state and prove theorems from Linear Algebra, Basic topology, Static and Dynamic Optimization
  • investigate the relationship between theory and exercises
  • formalize and interpret economic models by means of mathematical tools

Assessment criteria of skills

During the exam, the student is required to solve exercises and to prove theorems with accuracy. The ability of finding the connection between theory and exercises will be evaluated. The student is supposed to use a good and proper mathematical language and to use the learnt mathematical instruments to deeply understand economic models.

Comportamenti

Behaviors

The student will enhance his/her major understandings, representational abilities, computational abilities and reasoning ones. Moreover he/she will acquire a solid mathematical background to formalize, develop and interpret economic models.

Assessment methods

In the written exam, the student must demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and his/her ability to solve mathematical problems.

Methods: Final written exam

On the basis of the epidemiological trend and behavior of COVID-19, the exam will be held in classroom or in a virtual class

Further information:

The exam is written. The student is required to solve exercises and to answer theoretical questions.

The exam is divided in two parts: the first part is about Topology and Liner Algebra and the second part concerns the remainder of the program. The student will be successful only if he/she gets at least 7 points in each part and a global mark of 18.
