Il corso ha il seguente titolo: Conoscere, consultare, decidere: Filippo II e la crisi genovese del 1575-1576.
Lo studente alla fine del corso dovrà dimostrare di conoscere le fondamentali problematiche relative all'impero spagnolo nella seconda metà del Cinquecento, i suoi rapporti con con gli stati italiani indipendenti, le dinamiche di potere e i processi decisionali alla corte di Filippo II.
The course has the following title: Knowing, consulting, deciding: Philip II and the Genoese crisis of 1576.
At the end of the course the student must be able to demonstrate that he/she is well acquainted with the fundamental problems relating to the Spanish Empire in the second half of the sixteenth century, its relations with the independent Italian states, the dynamics of power and the decision-making processes at the court of Philip II.

Lo studente dovrà dimostrare la capacità di analizzare e comprendere le diverse posizioni storiografiche e i filoni di indagine riguardanti la materia del corso e di illustrarli criticamente.
The student will need to demonstrate the ability to analyze and undertand the various historigraphic perspectives and lines of research as they relate to the subject matter of the course; and be able to illustrate them critically.
La verifica delle capacità avverrà in sede di esame finale discutendo i testi in programma e quanto esposto nel corso delle lezioni e dei seminari.
Assessment of the abilities will be carried out during the final exam, discussing the texts in the reading list and what has been said during the lectures and seminars.
E' necessaria una partecipazione attenta e attiva dello studente durante lo svolgimento delle lezioni e degli incontri seminariali.
The student must participate attentively and actively in the lecture sessions and seminars comprised in the course.

Lettura e analisi di saggi storiografici e di testi e documenti editi e manoscritti
Reading and analysis of historiographical works and texts and published and unpublished documents.
Il corso prevede lezioni introduttive su temi generali di storia della monarchia spagnola nel secolo XVI e lezioni di approfondimento a carattere seminariale. Gli approfondimenti comprenderanno la lettura e l'analisi di testi e documenti editi e manoscritti
The course foresees introductory lectures on the fundamental themes of the history of the Spanish monarchy in the sixteenth century, to be followed by seminars on particular themes of political, military and social history. The seminars will include the reading and analysis of published and unpublished texts and documents.
