Al termine del corso gli studenti avranno approfondito le loro conoscenze nell'ambito della letteratura di lingua tedesca, in particolare per quanto riguarda la produzione letteraria del Novecento.
At the end of the course the students will have deepened their knowledge in the field of German-language literature, in particular as far as the literary production of the 20th century.
Per l'accertamento delle conoscenze è prevista la redazione di relazioni su argomenti concordati con i docenti e la discussione seminariale durante il corso. Le relazioni, rielaborate anche sulla base della discussione collegiale, verranno valutate in sede di esame finale
For the assessment of knowledge the student is expected to prepare reports on topics agreed with the professors, and a seminar discussion during the course. The reports, also elaborated on the basis of the collegial discussion, will be evaluated during the final exam.
Gli studenti saranno in grado di analizzare in autonomia i testi letterari proposti e di inserirli correttamente nel loro contesto storico-culturale
Students will be able to independently analyze the proposed literary texts and insert them correctly in their historical and cultural context

Buona conoscenza della lingua tedesca (livello consigliato C1). Nozioni di base di storia della letteratura di lingua tedesca e nozioni in merito alle principali metodologie critiche. Lettura di testi "canonici" dal Settecento al Novecento
Good knowledge of German (recommended level C1). Basic knowledge of the history of German-language literature and concepts. Reading of "canonical" texts from the 18th to the 20th century.
l corso avrà struttura seminariale. I docenti presenteranno il contesto storico-culturale e i testi su cui si concentrerà il lavoro. Ciascuno studente individuerà un tema o un testo di suo interesse e ne riferirà durante il corso.
Dato il carattere seminariale del corso, ulteriori indicazioni bibliografiche potranno essere date a lezione dai docenti.
Le lezioni si terranno sia in italiano, sia in tedesco. I testi letterari verranno letti in lingua originale.
The course will have a seminar structure. The professors will present the historical and cultural context and the texts on which the course will focus. Each student will identify a theme or a text of his/her interest and will report on it during the course.
Considering the seminar character of the course, further bibliographical indications can be given by the lecturers.
Lesson will take place both in italian both in german Language. The literary Texts will be read in the orginal language.
Il corso si divide in due moduli: A e B.
Modulo A: Die Blechtrommel di Günter Grass: romanzo picaresco come chiave di lettura della storia tedesca del Novecento?
Il modulo sarà dedicato alla lettura di uno dei più importanti romanzi del secondo dopoguerra tedesco: Die Blechtrommel (Il tamburo di latta) di Günter Grass (1959). Questo romanzo, esuberante nell’invenzione e nella scrittura – anche grazie alla commistione di registri diversi –offre un consuntivo in chiave grottesco-satirica della storia tedesca dall’inizio del Novecento fino al secondo dopoguerra. Dal romanzo è stato tratto l’omonimo film, con la regia di Völker Schlöndorff, uscito nel 1979.
Modulo B: Riscritture faustiane contemporanee
Nella letteratura contemporanea – non solo tedesca – sono molte le risonanze del mito faustiano. Alcuni testi si configurano come vere e proprie riscritture, altri invece lo toccano soltanto in maniera episodica. In questo modulo ci si concentrerà sulle riprese del mito che pongono l’accento sulla virtualizzazione dell’esperienza e disincarnazione del soggetto (disembodiment).
Già la seconda parte del Faust di Goethe dimostra in più punti come, attraverso la techné e la mediatizzazione dell’esperienza, si oltrepassino i confini tra il fisico e il virtuale e il soggetto assuma una presenza disincarnata, decontestualizzata e non-situata. Il mito faustiano è stato quindi riletto da diversi autori contemporanei in relazione a un’esperienza della realtà caratterizzata dalla progressiva virtualizzazione e velocizzazione dell’esperienza, entrambe tipiche della nostra era.
Il focus interpretativo si concentra su questo aspetto, strettamente connesso alla questione del postumano e del suo rapporto col tema del simulacro.
Module A.
Picaresque novel as as an interpretation of German History in 20. Century
In this module, we will focus on one of the most important German novels of the second after war: Günter Grass’ Die Blechtrommel. This novel offers an ironic-grotesque balance of 50 years German history.
Module B: Contemporary Faustian Rewritings
In contemporary literature - not only German - there are many resonances of the Faustian myth. Some texts take the form of genuine rewritings, while others only touch on it episodically. In this module, we will focus on rewritings of the myth that emphasise the virtualisation of experience and the disembodiment of the subject.
The second part of Goethe's Faust already demonstrates at several points how, through techné and the mediatisation of experience, the boundaries between the physical and the virtual are crossed and the subject assumes a disembodied, decontextualised and non-situated presence. The Faustian myth has thus been reinterpreted by various contemporary authors in relation to an experience of reality characterised by the progressive virtualisation and acceleration of experience, both typical of our age.
The interpretative focus is on this aspect, which is closely connected to the question of the posthuman and its relationship with the theme of the simulacrum.

Il programma è lo stesso per frequentanti e non frequentanti. I non frequentanti sono pregati di rivolgersi ai docenti qualora necessitino di ulteriori indicazioni di lettura per la preparazione dell'esame. La relazione scritta è richiesta anche ai non frequentanti e sarà discussa direttamente in sede di esame.
The programme is the same for both attending and non-attending students. Non-attending students are asked to contact the professor if they need to have further reading instructions for their exam preparation. The written report is also requested for non-attending students and will be discussed
Prova orale. L'esame inizia con la discussione della relazione redatta dallo studente (che, nella sua forma definitiva, deve essere consegnata ai docenti almeno 48 ore prima dell'esame). Partendo dalla discussione, il colloquio orale amplierà poi l'orizzonte incentrandosi su temi collegati a quelli già trattati dallo studente in forma scritta. Il colloquio si svolgerà in lingua italiana (su richiesta, anche in tedesco). Votazione espressa in trentesimi.
Oral exam. The exam starts with the discussion of the report prepared by the student (which, in its final form, must be handed in to the professor at least 48 hours before the exam). Starting from the discussion, the oral interview will then broaden the horizon focusing on topics related to those already treated by the student in writing. The interview will take place in Italian (on request, also in German). Voting expressed in 30 points.
