Il corso di lingua inglese prevede il raggiungimento di una competenza linguistica assimilabile al livello C1+/C2 di conoscenza della Lingua. A questo fine, lo studente dovrà, come parte del proprio lavoro individuale, integrare la propria preparazione seguendo il corso di lingua strumentale organizzato dal CLI per il Dipartimento (ex-Lettorato) per il livello indicato. Il superamento del test di livello del corso di lingua strumentale è condizione per poter registrare il voto finale. In alternativa al superamento delle prove, lo studente potrà produrre una certificazione internazionale tra quelle sotto indicate, conseguita non oltre i due anni precedenti.

Il corso di lingua strumentale, di durata ANNUALE, è tenuto dalla Dott. Wendy Doherty. Il corso si concentra su tutte le abilità. I non frequentanti sono tenuti a mettersi in contatto con la lettrice per informazioni e per concordare programmi alternativi. Le informazioni circa il lettorato e le relative prove sono disponibili su https://elearning.cli.unipi.it/mod/url/view.php?id=51. I lettori ricevono gli studenti nei locali del CLI siti in Via S. Maria 85 (palazzo Boilleau).
The English language course aims at reaching skills that are comparable to the C1+/C2 of the CEF. To this end, students should integrate their knowledge and skills attending the language classes organized by CLI (ex-lettorato) for the required level. Passing the final test is a requirement to be able to have the overall mark recorded. Otherwise students can produce an international certificate, obtained no sooner than two years.
A list of accepted certificates for C2 level follows:

- Toefl: PBT (score: 590-677), CBT (score: 243-300), iBT (96-20)
Language classes last throughout the year. They are taught by Dr Wendy Doherty and focus on all skills. Non attending (or non regularly attending) students are required to contact Dr Doherty to obtain information and/or to agree on alternative programmes. Information on these classes and the relevant tests is available at https://elearning.cli.unipi.it/mod/url/view.php?id=51 CELs (language experts) will be available to see students at their office, Via S. Le verifiche sulla conoscenza strumentale della lingua (lettorato) prevedono un test scritto e uno orale. Gli appelli per le prove di lettorato alla magistrale sono TRE (uno estivo, uno autunnale, uno invernale).
The final tests of language classes include a written and oral test. There are three exam sessions (one in summer, one in autumn, one in winter).
Lingua strumentale: assimilabile al livello C1+/C2 del QCER.
Corso: approfondimento dei principali concetti della sociolinguistica e della pragmatica applicati all’analisi della lingua orale e scritta.
Language classes: comparable to the C1+/C2 level of CEFR.
Course: detailed study of the main concepts of sociolinguistics and pragmatics applied to the analysis of oral and written texts.
Corso: Per i frequentanti ci sono 2 prove in itinere sulla conoscenza della teoria per valutare le conoscenze puntuali su sociolinguistica e pragmatica; e una presentazione orale di gruppo per valutare le capacità analitiche acquisite (frequentanti). Il voto sarà ottenuto dalla media delle tre prove. Per non frequentanti l’esame sarà una prova scritta con domande teoriche e analitiche.
Lingua strumentale: prove finali scritte e orali relative alle esercitazioni.
Le prove relative alle esercitazioni non sono propedeutiche rispetto all'esame della docente.
Il voto finale di Lingua Inglese 2 è determinato dal risultato nell’esame della docente. Il punteggio riportato nelle esercitazioni potrà contribuirà al voto finale fino a DUE punti.
Course: For regular attenders there are two intermediate tests on theoretical aspects of soioclinguistics and pragmatics and an oral group presentation to evaluate analytical skills. The overall mark is the average of the marks obtained in the three tests. For non attenders there is a written exam to evaluate theoretical and analytical skills
Language classes: written and oral tests.
Students must pass both the final tests for their language classes and the exam of Lingua inglese taught by prof. Bruti. They can choose which one to sit (and pass) first.
The final mark for English Language 2 is based on the results obtained in the lecturer’s course exam. Further points (max. 2) may be assigned based on the results in the language practice test.
Lo studente saprà descrivere e analizzare approfonditamente e con linguaggio specialistico un’interazione attraverso alcuni parametri socio-pragmatici.
Students will be able to describe and analyse an interaction in depth and with the adequate specialised terminology, by employing specific socio-pragmatic parameters.
Si verificherà questa capacità soprattutto nell’esposizione della relazione orale di gruppo, nella quale gli studenti saranno valutati singolarmente.
This skill will be assessed through an oral group presentation. Students will be assigned an individual mark.
Conoscenza di base della struttura del discorso, delle caratteristiche della comunicazione faccia a faccia, di concetti elementari di sociolinguistica e pragmatica.
Knowledge of the structure of discourse, the main features of face-to-face communication, and basic notions in the fields of sociolinguistics and pragmatics.
La frequenza delle esercitazioni con la dott.ssa Doherty è molto di aiuto per l'ampliamento della competenza linguistica.
Attending dr. Doherty's classes is crucial to widen language competence.
Il corso si svolgerà interamente in lingua inglese.
The course will be entirely taught in English.
In questo corso si approfondisce lo studio della sociolinguistica e della pragmatica allo scopo di analizzare a fondo il testo scritto e orale rispetto ad alcuni parametri di variazione.
Nella seconda parte del corso si procedrà all’analisi di diversi case studies, con attenzione particolare a questioni di variazione linguistica, tanto nella letteratura quanto nel cinema, nello specifico per le varietà diastratiche e il linguaggio giovanile come espressione di innovazione e emotività.
This course focuses on a deep study of sociolinguistics and pragmatics in order to be able to carry out comprehensive analyses of oral and written texts in relation to some parameters of variation.
In the second part of the course we will proceed to the analysis of different case studies, with special attention to issues of linguistic variation, both in literature and in cinema, in particular the representation of diastratic varieties and teen talk as examples of innovation and emotionally charged language.

Per gli studenti frequentanti ci saranno modalità di verifica in itinere durante lo svolgimento del corso (due prove in itinere più una presentazione orale di gruppo). Il voto finale è la media delle tre prove. L'esame per i non frequentanti consiste in una prova ORALE sui contenuti del corso (domande di verifica di natura teorica e analisi di testi).
For attending students there will be intermediate evaluation, i.e. two intermediate tests on theoretical aspects and an oral group presentation to evaluate analytical skills. The final mark is the average of the results in the three tests. For non regular attenders there will be an ORAL exam to evaluate theoretical and analytical skills.
