Advanced knowledge of linguistic theory and methodology of linguistics.

Modalità di verifica delle conoscenze

Durante il corso, gli studenti leggeranno parti dei principali testi della linguistica novecentesca sui
quali svolgeranno attività seminariale e scriveranno una relazione.

Seguirà un colloquio orale finale al momento dell’esame.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

Students will read and report some of the most seminal texts of linguistic theory belonging to the
20th century.

A written report on the seminar is also due.

A final colloquium will follow.

Capacità

Al termine del corso lo studente dovrà essere in grado di valutare criticamente l’evoluzione del
pensiero linguistico novecentesco e di collocarlo all'interno del dibattito storico ed epistemologico
del secolo.


Skills

At the end of the course the student must be able to critically evaluate the evolution of twentiethcentury
linguistic thought and to place it within the historical and epistemological debate of the
century.

Modalità di verifica delle capacità

Le modalità di verifica delle capacità si attueranno in rapporto alle relazioni individuali sui testi a lezione
(v. il punto relativo alla verifica delle conoscenze) e nella relazione scritta. Seguirà il colloquio finale con
il docente volto a verificare le competenze acquisite.

Assessment criteria of skills


The assessment criteria of skills will concern the seminars devoted to the read texts and the written
report. discussed. A final colloquium with the teacher will check the competence acquired.

Comportamenti

Viene incoraggiata la partecipazione attiva all'interpretazione dei testi proposti tramite commenti
personali, discussione critica e confronto tra le varie teorie proposte.


Behaviors

Students are invited to participate in the lessons through personal comments, discussions and
comparison between the different theories.

Modalità di verifica dei comportamenti

La partecipazione attiva degli studenti alle attività svolte a lezione sarà verificata mediante il
seminario orale e la relativa relazione scritta.


Assessment criteria of behaviors

The active participation of students in the activities will be verified through the seminar and the
relative written report.

Prerequisiti (conoscenze iniziali)

Aver già sostenuto l’esame di Linguistica Generale e di Glottologia della LM in Linguistica e
Traduzione, curriculum Linguistico.


Prerequisites

Classes of Historical Linguistics and General Linguistics of the LM in Linguistics and Translation,
curriculum of Linguistics.

Corequisiti

Per sostenere l'esame è necessario iscriversi al corso sulla piattaforma MOODLE entro un mese
dall'inizio del corso.


Co-requisites

All students must register to the class through the on-line platform MOODLE during the first month
of the lessons.

Spiccato interesse per la linguistica.

Programma (contenuti dell'insegnamento)

Il corso propone l’illustrazione critica delle principali correnti della linguistica nella seconda metà
dell'Ottocento e nel Novecento:
• Neogrammatici;
• Strutturalismo europeo ed americano;
• Grammatica generativa;
• Linguistica cognitiva

Syllabus


The main theories of linguistics in the second half of the Nineteenth century and of the Twentieth
century:
• Neogrammarians;
• European and American Structuralism;
• Generative Grammar;
• Cognitive Linguistics.
