LINGUA STRUMENTALE: Il corso prevede il raggiungimento del livello B2 di conoscenza della Lingua. A questo fine, lo studente potrà/dovrà, come parte del proprio lavoro individuale, integrare la propria preparazione seguendo il corso organizzato dal CLI presso il Dipartimento (ex-Lettorato o esercitazioni) per il livello indicato.
CORSO DOCENTE: Conoscenza delle caratteristiche specifiche della lingua inglese in uso in diversi ambiti della comunicazione multimediale e in alcuni generi del Web in particolare.
INSTRUMENTAL LANGUAGE CLASSES: The course requires the attainment of proficiency level B2 of the CEFR. To this end, the student can / will, as part of their individual work, integrate their preparation attending the course organised by CLI for the Department (former 'lettorati') for the indicated level.
COURSE: Knowledge of specific aspects of the English language used in different areas of multimedia communication, with special reference to some Web genres.

CORSO: Il Corso docente mira a sviluppare l'abilità della comprensione della lingua scritta e all'espansione del lessico della lingua inglese in generale. Intende inoltre sviluppare la capacità di riconosere e saper usare la lingua in diversi contesti d'uso, ad esempio formale, informale, tecnico e in realzioni a vari generi del Web.

COURSE: The Course aims at the development of reading comprehension skills and at lexical expansion in general. It also aims at developing the ability of using the English language in different situations, such as formal, informal, technical contexts and in relation to different Web genres.

Livello di competenza strumentale della Lingua inglese pari ad almeno il livello B1+ del CEFR
Proficiency level B1+
Il corso si compone di due parti: il corso con la docente (3 incontri a settimana, secondo semestre), e le esercitazioni con il Collaboratore ed Esperto Linguistico (CEL) (2 incontri a settimana, primo e secondo semestre).
Il Corso docente è incentrato sulle varietà linguistiche, ovvero variazione geografico-sociale (standard vs nonstandard, accento e dialetto, inglese britannico e americano) e in base a diversi contesti e mezzi d'uso (cfr. registro formale, informale, tecnico, in relazione a vari generi del Web, ecc.). Comprende alcune riflessioni sul ruolo dell’inglese come lingua globale e della comunicazione internazionale e sull’affermazione di forme discorsive legate alle nuove tecnologie e alla comunicazione mediata dal computer, che differiscono da quelle della comunicazione scritta e parlata tradizionali. Sono inoltre oggetto d’analisi i neologismi e lo 'slang della Rete', l’espressione della soggettività e della persuasione (con esempi dalla lingua del giornalismo e della pubblicità) e alcuni strumenti per l’analisi lessicale.
The Course consists of two parts: the course with the lecturer (three classes per week, second semester), and instrumental language classes (lettorato) with a Collaboratore ed Esperto Linguistico (CEL) (2 classes per week, both first and second semester)
The Course focuses on language varieties, i.e. socio-geographic varieties (standard vs. non-standard, accent, dialect, British English and American English) and variation depending on different contexts of use and means of communication (cf. formal and informal register, technical register, register used in different Web genres, etc.). It tackles the role of English as a global language and for international communication, as well as the emergence of discourse patterns determined by the new technologies and computer-mediated communication, which differ from traditional speaking and writing. Besides, the Course covers neologisms and Internet slang, subjectivity and persuasion (with examples from newspapers and advertising) and some tools for lexical analysis.

Notes for non-regular attenders:
The reading list is the same as that for regular attenders. Students may find the relevant chapters at the Copisteria. Also check the Moodle page of the course for further materials and announcements.
L’esame consiste in:
1) Il test di livello, composto da attività di ascolto, comprensione del testo ed esercizi di grammatica e lessico in formato di domande a scelta multipla. Il test verifica il raggiungimento del grado di competenza strumentale previsto in uscita (B2);
2) L’esame scritto, composto da circa 6 domande/esercizi sui contenuti proposti nel corso docente.
Le due parti possono essere sostenute insieme o separatamente. L’esame docente può essere sostenuto anche prima del test di livello. Per motivi organizzativi, è molto importante che lo studente specifichi le parti che intende sostenere al momento dell’iscrizione all’esame. I risultati del test e dell'esame scritto rimangono validi per 12 mesi.
2) Un colloquio orale conclusivo, basato sia sul corso delle esercitazioni sia sul corso docente. L'orale viene fatto dopo aver completato le altre parti, di solito la settimana successiva agli scritti.
È obbligatorio iscriversi online agli esami (esami.unipi.it). Non si accettano mail in sostituzione dell'iscrizione online, né è possibile accettare (per motivi organizzativi) chi non si è iscritto.
The exam consists of:
1) the Language Test, composed of a Listening Comprehension task, Reading Comprehension tasks, Grammar and vocabulary exercises, in a multiple-choice format.
2) Written exam, composed of approx.. 6 exercises/questions on topics dealt with in the Course with Lecturer.
The Language Test and Written exam can be taken either on the same day or separately. The written exam can also be taken before the Language Test. Please specify which part of the exam you intend to take when you enroll, as this information is very important for organisational requirements. The results of the test and exam are valid for 12 months.
3) Final interview, based on topics dealt with in the Instrumental language classes and in the course with Lecturer. The interview takes place after completing the other parts, usually one week after the written exam.
Online exam enrolment is compulsory (esami.unipi.it). Enrolment via email, in time or delayed, is not accepted (for organisational reasons).
Alla fine di settembre verrà svolto un Test di Livello (solo per le matricole, da NON confondere con quello per gli studenti di LINGUE) di natura diagnostica. Sarà opportuno tenere d'occhio gli avvisi su Omero e la pagina Moodle del corso per ulteriori informazioni sulla data e modalità di iscrizione. Coloro che risultassero avere un livello dal B1 a B1+ possono seguire le esercitazioni svolte dal Collaboratore ed Esperto Linguistico (CEL) abbinate al Corso. Qualora il livello in entrata fosse inferiore a B1, si raccomanda, oltre alla frequenza delle esercitazioni, di integrare ulteriormente la propria preparazione in autonomia.
At the end of September, a Language test will take place (for first-year students only, not to be confused with the Placement test for students of the Foreign Languages course) with the aim of identifying students’ entry level. Please check Omero and the Moodle page of the Course for further details about the date and enrolment. Students obtaining B1 and B1+ can attend the Instrumental classes (lettorato) associated with the Course; those scoring lower should attend classes and integrate their preparation further autonomously.
