The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of classical and quantum statistical physics. In particular student are expected to acquire: - full knowledge of classical and quantum ideal gases with application to condensed matter problems - knowledge of the theory of phase transitions in mean field approximation - knowledge of the theory of the renormalization group framework - introduction to quantum phase transitions
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material. Furthermore the student is expected to demonstrate the ability to put into use the theoretical tools learned during the course.
