Lo studente potrà acquisire conoscenze relative al problema della nascita dello stato moderno in epoca moderna con particolare riguardo al processo noto come Fiscal Military State ed al dibattito che nel corso del Settecento si sviluppò in relazione al reggiungimento del benessere del maggior numero di cittadini
Students will be able to acquire an understanding of the issue of the birth of the modern state in the modern era, with particular regard to the process known as the Fiscal Military State and to the debate that developed during the eighteenth century in relation to the achievement of the wellbeing of the greatest number of citizens
Per l'accertamento delle conoscenze verranno svolte delle prove orali e scritte in itinere, oltre al seminario che personalmemte ciascuno studente sarà chiamato a tenere sulla base delle scelte individuali e sotto la supervisione della professoressa.
To assess knowledge ongoing oral and written tests will be carried out in addition to the seminar that each student will personally be required to deliver on the basis of individual choices and under the supervision of the professor
Lo studente sarà in grado di svolgere una ricerca autonoma sul problema del Fiscal Military State ed un'analisi critica delle fonti; inoltre sarà in grado di presentare in una relazione scritta ed in una esposizione orale i risultati dell'attività svolta durante il corso
Students will be able to conduct independent research on the problem of the Fiscal Military State and to make a critical analysis of the sources. They will be expected to present the results of the work undertaken during the course in a written report and in an oral presentation.
Lo studente dovrà preparare una relazione scritta, e presentarla oralmente, sui risultati ottenuti dall'analisi critica della bibliografia e dei testi a lui assegnati.
Students will be required to prepare a written report, to be presented orally, on the results obtained from the critical analysis of the bibliography and texts assigned to them.
Lo studente potrà acquisire metodo critico e sviluppare autonoma capacità di contestualizzazione dei fenomeni storici oggetto d'analisi.
La capacità critica e contestualizzante sarà verificata nel corso delle attività seminariali durante le quali gli studenti esporranno gli argomenti scelti sotto la guida della professoressa.
The students’ critical and contextualising skills will be tested during the seminars, in which they will expound the topics chosen under the guidance of the professor
Affinché lo studente possa frequentare proficuamente il corso, è utile che lo stesso padroneggi la tematica della nascita dello stato moderno in Europa e che abbia conoscenza della problematica dell'assolutismo illuminato.
In order for the students to take the course successfully, it will be useful to gain a thorough understanding the subject of the birth of the modern state in Europe and to understand the issue of Enligtned absolutism.
Il corso prevede lo svolgimento di lezioni frontali, con ausilio di power point e di proiezione di testi, e lo svolgimento di seminari affidati ai singoli studenti organizzati in gruppi sotto la direzione della professoressa che fornirà precise indicazioni sui siti web da cui scaricare i testi oggetto di analisi, sia nel corso delle lezioni sia nei tre giorni in cui riceverà gli studenti; poiché i testi oggetto del corso saranno presentati in lingua originale, verranno utilizzate lingue diverse dall'italiano.
The course will include lectures with PowerPoint slides and projected texts, and seminars led by individual students organised in groups under the direction of the professor. The professor will inform the students of the websites from which to download the texts under analysis, both during lectures and in the three days in which she will be available to meet with them. Since the course texts will be presented in their original form, languages other than Italian will be used.
Nuove prospettive sulla nascita del Welfare State: guerra, fiscalità ed il dibattito settecentesco sul miglioramento delle condizioni di vita dei cittadini (developmentalism).
Una ormai consolidata tradizione storiografica ha visto nella guerra e nella fiscalità l'origine dello stato moderno in Europa e nel mercantilismo lo strumento per finanziare entrambe le attività. Il Fiscal Military State nel corso del Settecento venne criticato da più punti di vista: il corso presterà particolare attenzione alla riflessione pacifista di Fénelon e dell'abbé de Saint Pierre, alla visione industrialista di Federico II, di cui verrà esaminato L'Antimachiavelli (1740).
New perspectives on the birth of the welfare state: war, taxation and the eighteenth-century debate on improving the living conditions of citizens (developmentalism).
A well-established historiographic tradition has identified the origins of the modern state in Europe in war and taxation, and identified mercantilism as the means of financing the two activities. During the eighteenth century, the Fiscal Military State was criticised from several points of view: the course will pay particular attention to the pacifist reflection of Fénelon and Abbé de Saint Pierre, and to the industrial vision of Frederick II , whose Anti-Machiavel (1740 ) will be examined.

Il programma d'esame dovrà essere concordato con il docente che mette a disposizione tre ore settimanali di ricevimento anche per far fronte a questa esigenza
The examination programme must be agreed with the professor, who will set aside three hours per week to receive students for this purpose
La prova orale consiste in un colloquio tra il candidato e il docente, durante il quale lo studente dovrà dimostrare di saper riferire sul Fiscal Military State, sul mercantilismo e sul dispotismo illuminato , di saper commentare e contestualizzare le opere di Fénelon, di Castel de Saint-Pierre, Réflexions sur l’Antimachiavel de 1740, (1741) e l'Antimachiavelli di Federico II;
la durata media del colloquio è circa di 40 minuti;
la prova orale non è superata se il candidato mostra di non essere in grado di esprimersi in modo chiaro e di usare i concetti di Fiscal Military State, di mercantilismo e di dispotismo illuminato in maniera critica; se il candidato non sarà in grado di mettere in relazione quanto proposto dall'analisi della bibliografia con quella dei testi esaminati.
Per presentarsi all'esame è importante aver svolto l'attività seminariale concordata con la docente.
