Il corso si propone di fornire un'informazione approfondita relativa allo sviluppo della miniatura e delle arti suntuarie medievali, con particolare riguardo per le tecniche orafe.
The course aims to provide an in-depth information on the development of the miniature and medieval sumptuary arts, with particular regard to goldsmith techniques.
The student who successfully completes the course will demonstrate a solid knowledge of manuscript painting and sumptuary arts during the Middle Ages. Moreover, the student will be able to date and localize important works of those arts from their style, genre, and technique. Finally, the student will be aware of the strict relation between the artistic development and the more general cultural development of the period.

In the oral exam, the student will be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the historical development of medieval manuscript painting and sumptuary arts, in particular liturgical objects, by discussing some examples using the appropriate terminology.

Il corso mira a dotare lo studente degli strumenti utili a collocare nello spazio e nel tempo opere e maestri della miniatura e delle arti suntuarie medievali.
The course aims to equip the student with the necessary tools to recognize the local and chronological origin of works and authors of medieval illumination and sumptuary arts.

Per affrontare questo corso è necessario aver sostenuto l'esame di Storia dell'Arte Medievale in Italia e in Europa (12 cfu) o di Istituzioni di Storia dell'Arte Medievale (6 cfu) del corso di laurea triennale.
To undertake this course, the student must have completed the examination of Medieval Art History in Italy and Europe (12 cfu) or Fundamentals of Medieval Art History (6 cfu) of the three-year degree course.

Dopo aver ripercorso le tappe principali del divenire artistico dell'età di mezzo sulla falsariga della storia della miniatura, verranno analizzate alcune delle più importanti tipologie dell'arredo liturgico, seguendone i diversificati sviluppi dall'età tardoantica allo sbocco rinascimentale. Particolare attenzione verrà riservata al gioco d'influenze reciproche tra funzione, tecnica e stile, al fine di fornire un esempio significativo delle forze attive nella genesi dell'opera d'arte.
After exploring the main stages of the history of the book illumination during the middle ages, some of the most important types of liturgical furniture will be analyzed, following its diversified developments from the late Antique to the Renaissance. Particular attention will be given to the game of mutual influence between function, technique and style, in order to provide a significant example of the forces active in the genesis of the work of art.
The course is divided into two parts. Part one: a general survey of the medieval manuscripts painting, with various examples discussed in detail; Part two: in-depth analysis of the development of liturgical objects from Christian antiquity to the fifteenth century.

I testi d'esame sono quelli sopra elencati, con la differenza che, relativamente al punto 3 (F. Crivello ecc.), vanno portate sei anziché tre voci a scelta tra quelle indicate.
