L'insegnamento si propone di fornire agli studenti le nozioni relative alle caratteristiche morfo-funzionali che predispongono una specie vegetale ad essere invasiva, agli impatti dalle invasioni biologiche sulla biodiversità e al contributo antropico e delle attività agro-zootecniche e floro-vivaistiche alla diffusione delle specie invasive. Sarà inoltre fornito agli studenti il quadro normativo vigente sulla gestione delle specie aliene invasive e saranno presentate le specie vegetali normate dall’Unione Europea di maggiore interesse per gli agro-ecosistemi.
Students will have the opportunity to learn which morpho-functional traits are related to plant invasiveness, how biological invasions are threatening biodiversity and to which extent humans contribute to the diffusion of invasive species, with special focus on farming, livestock and horticultural activities. Students will be made aware of the current regulation concerning the management of invasive alien species and will become familiar with the alien invasive plants of EU concern that are of major interest for agroecosystems.

Al termine dell'insegnamento lo studente sarà in grado di riconoscere le specie vegetali aliene invasive già individuate dalla legislazione e di determinare la potenzialità invasiva e l’impatto sulla biodiversità di una qualsiasi specie vegetale. Sarà, inoltre, consapevole delle leggi europee, nazionali e regionali che regolano l’introduzione e la gestione delle specie aliene invasive
Attending this course students will be able to recognize the invasive alien plants of major concern for EU regulation and to assess the potential invasiveness and the potential impact on biodiversity of any plant species. Moreover, students will be aware of the European, national, and local regulations concerning the introduction and management of invasive alien species.

- Ability to recognize and describe the invasivity traits of plants on images, and fresh or dry plant samples during the final examination
- Continuous assessment through problem solving and the observation of images, and fresh or dry plant samples during lessons and practical work
Al termine del corso lo studente avrà acquisito una maggiore sensibilità verso le tematiche concernenti la conservazione della biodiversità e una maggiore attenzione verso i comportamenti della vita quotidiana e le attività concernenti le produzioni agro-zootecniche e floro-vivaistiche che favoriscono, direttamente o indirettamente, l'introduzione e la diffusione delle specie aliene.
At the end of the course the student will have developed a higher awareness towards:
- the value of biodiversity and its conservation
- all the working and everyday life actions that can directly or indirectly favor the introduction and diffusion of alien species

Per comprendere gli argomenti trattati nel corso lo studente deve possedere conoscenze sulla struttura, riproduzione e sistematica delle piante.
To better understand the contents of the course students should possess knowledge on the fundamentals of plant structure, reproduction and systematic.
I contenuti teorici del corso sono presentati mediante lezioni frontali con l'ausilio di immagini proiettate. Le lezioni frontali sono integrate da momenti di discussione di casi di studio e dall'osservazione su immagini e dal vivo di specie già definite invasive o potenzialmente tali. Gli studenti saranno guidati nell'approfondimento di un argomento che presenteranno nel colloquio finale.
Theoric lessons will be delivered face to face with the help of screened images. Lessons will be supplemented with collegial discussion of case studies and with the observation of invasive or potential invasive plants species. Students will be guided in choosing a topic to deepen and present in the final colloquium.

- Biological invasion: a global event involving all ecosystems and taxonomical groups
- Effects on biodiversity, with special focus on pastures

- Transport paths of alien plants, the role of agricultural activities and of the common citizen

The final examination will be carried out through an individual oral exam in which the student will present and discuss the topic he/her choose to deepen. Students must also demonstrate their knowledge and ability in recognizing the most frequent invasive species and in answering questions on the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.
