Il Corso vuole fornire agli studenti gli strumenti per affrontare il progetto per un manufatto architettonico che presenti problemi di conservazione. Pertanto, il percorso è finalizzato alla redazione di un progetto di restauro fondato sul “cantiere della conoscenza” del manufatto, sugli interventi di restauro e di adeguamento a nuove funzioni. Obiettivo principale del Corso è l’acquisizione di una metodologia di progetto che si sviluppa in tre fasi (conoscenza, interpretazione, definizione dell’intervento) sviluppata attraverso lezioni frontali ed una esercitazione progettuale.
Mediante lezioni frontali verrà illustrata una prima parte teorica inerente lineamenti di Storia del restauro in ordine cronologico, affrontando:
- Il rapporto tra passato e presente dall’antichità al XVIII secolo
- La storia del restauro nel corso dell’Ottocento
- Il restauro tra teorie e interventi nel XX secolo
Successivamente verranno approfonditi gli indirizzi metodologici ed operativi del progetto di restauro attraverso:
- Alcuni concetti fondamentali
- Carte internazionali e Norme per il progetto di restauro
- Metodologia della progettazione architettonica del restauro e le Tecniche
- Alcuni interventi di restauro
Nel corso delle esercitazioni progettuali gli studenti saranno guidati a sviluppare competenze tecniche, interpretative e progettuali nel campo del patrimonio edilizio storico finalizzato al progetto di restauro e riuso compatibile, che parte dalla conoscenza della consistenza geometrica e materica dei manufatti, procede con l’interpretazione del degrado e dei dissesti strutturali e delle trasformazioni succedutesi nel tempo e si conclude con la proposta degli interventi più appropriati per la loro conservazione: proposta coerente con i principi disciplinari acquisiti.
Ad integrazione delle lezioni frontali teoriche e di laboratorio sono previsti incontri/seminari/conferenze/workshop su argomenti inerenti il corso.
The course aims to provide students with the tools to tackle the design of an architectural artefact with conservation problems. Therefore, the path is aimed at the drafting of a restoration project based on the 'knowledge site' of the artefact, on restoration work and adaptation to new functions. The main objective of the course is the acquisition of a project methodology that develops in three phases (knowledge, interpretation, definition of the intervention) developed through lectures and a project exercise.
A first theoretical part will be illustrated through lectures, covering the History of Restoration in chronological order, addressing:
- The relationship between past and present from antiquity to the 18th century
- The history of restoration during the 19th century
- Restoration between theories and interventions in the 20th century
Subsequently, the methodological and operational directions of the restoration project will be explored through:
- Some fundamental concepts
- International Charters and Standards for Restoration Design
- Restoration Architectural Design Methodology and Techniques
- Some Restoration Interventions
During the design exercises, students will be guided to develop technical, interpretative and design skills in the field of historical building heritage aimed at the project of restoration and compatible reuse, which starts with the knowledge of the geometric and material consistency of the artefacts, proceeds with the interpretation of the deterioration and structural disruption and the transformations that have occurred over time and concludes with the proposal of the most appropriate interventions for their conservation: a proposal consistent with the disciplinary principles acquired.
Meetings/seminars/conferences/workshops on topics related to the course are planned to supplement the theoretical lectures and laboratory classes.
La verifica delle conoscenze sarà effettuata durante l’anno con presentazioni intercorso da parte degli allievi che esporranno l’avanzamento del proprio lavoro e con l’esame a fine corso.
The verification of knowledge will be carried out during the year with inter-course presentations by the students presenting the progress of their work and with the examination at the end of the course.
Gli studenti che completeranno l'intero percorso formativo saranno in grado di riconoscere ed applicare i principi teorico-metodologici del restauro illustrati durante le lezioni.
Students who complete the entire course will be able to recognise and apply the theoretical-methodological principles of restoration illustrated during the lessons.
L'esame in forma di colloquio orale verterà sui temi sviluppati nelle lezioni e nella verifica del lavoro di laboratorio svolto così da accertare l'acquisizione da parte dello studente degli obiettivi stabiliti.
The examination in the form of an oral interview will focus on the topics developed in the lectures and verification of the laboratory work carried out in order to ascertain the student's acquisition of the set objectives.
L'ambizione del corso è avviare lo studente ad una lettura critica del patrimonio e poter partecipare consapevolmente alle attività progettuali sui manufatti storici.
The ambition of the course is to initiate the student into a critical reading of heritage and to be able to consciously participate in design activities on historical artefacts.
L'esame in forma di colloquio orale verterà sui temi sviluppati nelle lezioni e accerterà l'acquisizione da parte dello studente degli obiettivi stabiliti.
The examination in the form of an oral interview will focus on the topics developed in the lectures and will ascertain the student's acquisition of the set objectives.
Conoscenze di base: storia dell’architettura, tecnologie costruttive storiche, comportamento statico degli edifici.
Basic knowledge: history of architecture, historical building technologies, static behaviour of buildings.
I contenuti Corso di Restauro Architettonico saranno sviluppati secondo cicli di lezioni ed incontri in cui verranno trattati seguenti argomenti:
- Teorie e Storia del restauro dall’antichità fino ai giorni nostri
- Il progetto di conservazione e restauro: questioni teoriche e di metodo.
- Il cantiere tradizionale: materiali, tecniche, elementi costruttivi.
- Lo studio della fabbrica: rilievo, ricerca storica, analisi della consistenza e diagnostica;
- Il progetto di restauro anche strutturale e conservazione di materiali, superfici ed elementi costruttivi.
The content Architectural Restoration Course will be developed in cycles of lectures and meetings in which the following topics will be covered:
- Theories and History of Restoration from Antiquity to the Present Day
- The conservation and restoration project: theoretical and methodical issues.
- The traditional building site: materials, techniques, construction elements.
- The study of the building: survey, historical research, texture analysis and diagnostics;
- The restoration project also structural and conservation of materials, surfaces and construction elements.
Durante le lezioni il docente fornirà il materiale didattico.
The lecturer will provide teaching materials during the lessons.
Il materiale didattico verrà fornito sul sito e-learning del corso (Moodle).

L'esame prevede una prova orale, nel corso della quale verranno illustrati gli elaborati grafici del progetto di restauro sviluppato durante il Laboratorio, e verranno verificate le conoscenze teorico-metodologiche e progettuali acquisite.
The examination consists of an oral test, during which the graphics of the restoration project developed during the workshop will be illustrated and the theoretical-methodological and design knowledge acquired will be verified.
