|
At the end of this course the student should know the foundations of modern Calculus of Variations (including existence results via the direct method, basic regularity) and some of its applications.
Esame orale.
Oral examination.
At the end of the course students should be able to understand at least the introduction of a research publication on the subject. They should also be able to complete a proof starting from a sketch, and fill-in the technical details omitted in the lectures.
Esame orale.

- Approccio parametrico alle superifici minime (alla Douglas e Radó);
- insiemi di perimetro finito e problemi di capillarità.
Essential topics:
- Basic notions: Euler-Lagrange equations.
- The direct method for existence results.

- Basic regularity of minimizers and solutions of the Euler-Lagrange equation in weak form.
- Gamma-convergence: basic propertiers and relevant examples.
Time allowing, I will alkso cover one of the following topics:
- Rearrangement theorems and symmetrization.
- Young measures.
- Parametric approach to minimal surface (following Douglas and Radó).
- Finite perimeter sets and capillarity problems.
