Chi segue il corso potrà apprendere come sia mutata nel tempo l'accezione del termine antropologia, insieme con i suoi differenti oggetti.
Students will learn how the meaning of the term anthropology, together with its objects, has changed over time.

Seguendo il corso si potranno affrontare con i necessari strumenti di analisi storica le problematiche legate ai discorsi e alle pratiche di tipo antropologico.

The course consists in the presentation of PDF files with images and texts that, included in Moodle, will be an essential part of the material to be studied for the exam.
Antropologie. Una storia plurale (per immagini)
In varie lingue europee e nel corso del tempo, il termine antropologia ha assunto i significati più diversi e spesso ambigui, portando infine alla formazione di discipline scientifiche tra Settecento e Novecento. Un tronco ottocentesco - solo tendenzialmente unitario - generò presto rami speciali, ciascuno dotato di metodi e linguaggi propri, tanto da rendere quasi inappropriato l'uso singolare del termine. Il corso intende ricostruire il mutamento storico degli interessi e delle pratiche sottese a quei "discorsi" sull'uomo, iniziando con alcune tracce lasciate dall’antichità e giungendo infine a porre la domanda se e come si possa praticare, oggi, uno sguardo di tipo antropologico.
Anthropologies. A plural histories (through images)
In the European languages and over time, the term “anthropology” took on the most diverse and often ambiguous meanings, finally leading to the formation of scientific disciplines between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries. A nineteenth-century trunk - only tendentially unitary - soon generated special branches, each equipped with its own methods and languages, so much so as to make the singular use of the term almost inappropriate. The course intends to reconstruct the historical change of interests and practices underlying those "discourses" on man, starting with some traces left by antiquity and and finally reaching the question of whether and how an anthropological gaze can be practiced today.
