Il corso è diretto a fornire adeguate conoscenze di elementi di base del diritto pubblico romano (ordinamento costituzionale, fonti del diritto, diritto penale, inquadramento giuridico dei rapporti internazionali e dell'organizzazione amministrativa del territorio), offrendo spunti di comparazione con la storia istituzionale posteriore e in particolare con modelli giuridici affini ravvisabili nell'esperienza giuridica degli Stati moderni.
The student who successfully completes the course will gain a basic knowledge of some crucial matters of Roman public law (constutional law, criminal law, international law and administrative law).
La verifica delle conoscenze si accerta al termine del corso con un esame finale, secondo le modalità indicate nello specifico campo.
Students may be asked questions during the course to test their ongoing knowledge of the subject and to provide a sample of the level needed to pass the exam. Questions are welcome during the lecture and a time for Q&A is always scheduled in the final minutes of each class.
Al termine del corso lo studente sarà in grado di comprendere i principi e le regole fondamentali alla base degli argomenti trattati.
After attending to this course a student will be able to understand some relevant rules of the general law of contract in their historical development.
In sede di esame finale sarà valutata la capacità applicativa da parte degli studenti delle nozioni apprese durante l'insegnamento.
In the final exam there the student's ability to explain and to express notions learnt during the course will be assessed. The specific stages of evolution of the Roman institutional system will be compared and contrasted to make sure that the student has gained basic skills of the legal comparative method.
Lo studente potrà acquisire e/o sviluppare sensibilità alle problematiche giuridiche trattate.
Students will be required to acquire knowledge of Roman public law by attending the course and/or studying at home, addressing questions to the teacher each time further explanations are needed.
Durante il corso potranno essere organizzate attività seminariali, al termine delle quali verrà richiesta una breve relazione scritta o orale concernente gli argomenti trattati.
During the course and/or the final exam, the accuracy and precision of the acquired knowledge and legal reasoning will be evaluated.
Al fine del raggiungimento degli obiettivi del corso rappresenta un prerequisito la conoscenza delle nozioni di base di storia istituzionale romana (VII sec. a.C. — VI sec. d.C.) e di diritto pubblico contemporaneo (forme di Stato e forme di governo, diritti fondamentali, rapporto tra Stato ed enti locali e principi essenziali del diritto internazionale).
Basic skills of legal reasoning, general history and public law are needed to attend the course.
The subject will be explained also by projecting texts, images and tables.
Il contenuto dell'insegnamento verte sui seguenti argomenti:
a) le strutture costituzionali;
b) le fonti del diritto;
c) gli elementi del diritto e della procedura penale;
d) i profili giuridici dei rapporti internazionali;
e) l'organizzazione amministrativa del territorio.
The course covers the following topics in their historical evolution:
a) constitutional systems;
b) sources of law;
c) criminal law;
d) international relations;
e) administrative organisation of Roman territory.

Su indicazione del docente, gli studenti frequentanti potranno sostituire parti del programma con gli appunti delle lezioni.

Non-attending students must study the whole of the book indicated in the section 'Bibliography'.
La prova si svolge mediante un esame orale consistente in un colloquio tra il candidato e il docente o anche tra il candidato e altri collaboratori del docente titolare. La prova orale non è superata se il candidato mostra di non aver compreso le nozioni fondamentali e/o non essere in grado di esprimersi in modo chiaro e di usare la terminologia corretta.
The oral exam will consist of two interviews, held on the same day by the lecturer and another faculty member with advanced knowledge of the subject. The exam will be passed if the student shows a sufficient level of knowledge of Roman public law and a basic degree of legal reasoning. Both aspects will be tested through direct questions; candidates may be asked to provide examples or further explanations to clarify their statement or demonstrate their understanding of the subject.
