Storia e materialità del libro manoscritto "orientale" dall'origine a oggi, nelle culture ebraica, armena, araba, copta, siriaca, etiopica, iranica.
History and materiality of the "oriental" manuscript book from its origin to today, in the Jewish, Armenian, Arab, Coptic, Syriac, Ethiopian, Iranian cultures.

Gli studenti che seguiranno con profitto il corso dovranno saper descrivere un manoscritto nei suoi aspetti materiali e storici. Quelli a conoscenza di una o più delle lingue interessate dovranno saper definire gli aspetti formali del testo (grafia, presenza e contenuto di colofoni e note).
Students who successfully follow the course must be able to describe a manuscript in its material and historical aspects. Those familiar with one or more of the languages concerned should be able to define the formal aspects of the text (spelling, presence and content of colophones and notes).

Si imparerà a comportarsi come si deve in biblioteca e in archivio, adottando le precauzioni necessarie per evitare di danneggiare manoscritti e documenti e non essere esclusi dalla loro consultazione.
You will learn to behave properly in the library and in the archives, taking the necessary precautions to avoid damaging manuscripts and documents and not being excluded from their consultation.
Nessun prerequisito. Benvenuta la conoscenza di una o più delle lingue e delle culture considerate.
No prerequisites. Knowledge of one or more of the languages and cultures considered is welcome.
Introduzione alla codicologia comparata vicino-orientale (ebraica, armena, araba, copta, siriaca, etiopica, iranica).
I materiali e le loro caratteristiche; tipologie e formato dei libri; legature; impaginazione; paleografia (specificamente siriaca e araba); colofoni; decorazione e illustrazione; la catalogazione e la descrizione del manoscritto.
Sono previste lezioni alla Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana (Firenze).
Introduction to Near Eastern Comparative Codicology (Hebrew, Armenian, Arabic, Coptic, Syriac, Ethiopian, Iranian). The materials and their characteristics; types and formats of books; ligatures; layout; paleography (specifically Syriac and Arabic); colophones; decoration and illustration; the cataloging and description of the manuscript. Lessons are planned at the Laurentian Library (Florence).
