The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main processes and events in the history of the Arabian Peninsula during pre-Islamic times. He or she will be able to look critically at the sources (literary, archaeological and epigraphic) and at the dibated chronological problems. Lastly, he or she will be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of the social and religious and economic peculiarities of pre-Islamic Arabia, with a special focus on Southern Arabia, and of the role of the Arabian civilization in the context of the Ancient Near Eastern studies.
- During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. - The student's ability to explain correctly the topics of the two/three selected articles will also be assessed.

La storia dell’arte sudarabica
The course covers the history of pre-Islamic Arabia (i.e. until the VII century AD), paying special attention to South Arabia and to the caravan towns of Central and North Arabia which flourished on the incense routes. The reconstruction of the history of pre-Islamic Arabia and of the peculiarities of its civilization will be provided, focusing on the analysis of the archaeological and epigraphic sources.
