Learning outcomes
Knowledge
Students are expected to acquire awareness of the complexity of environmental problems with particular emphasis on their economic nature and fundamental notions about instruments to deal with them and their comparative properties.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
On the whole the student will be assessed on her/his ability to discuss the main course contents using an appropriate terminology. In particular, with reference to the written exam, the multiple choice part aims at testing the degree of comprehension of the main topics of the course while in the other questions the student must demonstrate the ability to discuss specific themes proposed.

Syllabus
Economy and the environment: mutual relations; pollution as a negative externality; instruments of pollution control: economic incentives and command and control regulations. Evaluation of environment parameters. Renewable and exhaustible resources. International issues and problems.
