LINGUA STRUMENTALE: Il corso prevede il raggiungimento del livello C1/C2 di conoscenza della Lingua. A questo fine, lo studente potrà/dovrà, come parte del proprio lavoro individuale, integrare la propria preparazione seguendo il corso organizzato dal CLI presso il Dipartimento (ex-Lettorato o esercitazioni) per il livello indicato.
CORSO DOCENTE: conoscenza delle caratteristiche fondamentali di vari sottogeneri della letteratura per l'infanzia, con particolare riferimento a fenomeni linguistici e culturali che possono rappresentare elementi di difficoltà nella traduzione dall’inglese verso l’italiano.
LABORATORIO: conoscenza delle problematiche e strategie principali relative alla traduzione di alcuni esempi da testi letterari.
INSTRUMENTAL LANGUAGE CLASSES: The course requires the attainment of the proficiency level C1/C2 of the CEFR. To this end, the students can / will, as part of their individual work, integrate their preparation attending the course organized by CLI for the Department (former 'lettorati') for the indicated level.
COURSE: knowledge of the main features of various subgenres within children’s literature, especially focusing on cultural and linguistic phenomena which may cause difficulties in translating from English into Italian.
LABORATORY: knowledge of the main problems and strategies used in translating samples from literary texts.

CORSO DOCENTE: essere capaci di analizzare testi appartenenti a vari sottogeneri della letteratura per l’infanzia identificandone le criticità in una prospettiva contrastivo-traduttiva che comprende vari livelli di descrizione linguistica e aspetti culturali.
LABORATORIO: capacità di tradurre brani da testi letterari.

COURSE: be capable of analysing texts for children by identifying their challenging aspects in a contrastive-translational perspective which involves various levels of linguistic and cultural description.

Translating for children, Prof.ssa S. Masi (primo semestre)
Il Corso di Lingua e traduzione inglese II affronta l’analisi di diversi fenomeni relativi alla traduzione per l’infanzia, ad esempio l’interazione tra immagini e testo scritto, la resa dei nomi e della voce dei personaggi nei dialoghi, l'espressione del registro linguistico, la connotazione regionale, sociale e culturale, i giochi di parole, gli usi figurati della lingua, il turpiloquio, ecc. L’etichetta di ‘Letteratura per l’infanzia’ include in realtà un pubblico molto eterogeneo, che va dai bambini in età prescolare, ai quali sono destinati i cosiddetti picture books, come anche i bambini/ragazzi divenuti lettori autonomi e gli adolescenti. Si vedrà come i testi di partenza riflettano le diverse caratteristiche del pubblico dei destinatari e come ciò si rifletta anche nei testi tradotti.
Al Corso sono associati sia un Laboratorio traduttivo (primo semestre), sia esercitazioni scritte e orali (ex-lettorato di tipo avanzato), per due semestri, svolte dal Collaboratore ed Esperto Linguistico (CEL).
Translating for children, Prof.ssa S. Masi (first semester)
The course of English Language and Translation II tackles several phenomena related to the translation of texts for children, e.g. word-picture interaction, character’s names and voices in dialogues, register, regional, social and cultural connotation, wordplay, figurative and foul language, etc. In fact, the label of ‘Children’s Literature’ covers a heterogeneous target audience ranging from pre-school children, for whom picture books are written, to autonomous readers and adolescents. It will be shown that both source texts and translations reflect audience design.
The course is associated with both a Translation Laboratory (first semester) and Instrumental language classes where both written and oral skills are practiced. These activities last throughout the year and are run by a Collaboratore ed Esperto Linguistico (CEL).

1) Esame del docente. L'esame relativo al corso del docente consiste in una prova scritta in inglese, della durata di due ore. Si articola in una o due domande aperte di carattere teorico e in un’analisi di un testo di partenza e della sua traduzione (è ammesso l’uso dei dizionari).
2) Esame scritto del Laboratorio (traduzione)
3) Prove relative alle esercitazioni (ex lettorati). La verifica delle conoscenze acquisite nel corso delle esercitazioni si articolerà, sul modello degli esami di Cambridge, in una verifica scritta (Use of English, Reading Comprehension e Text Writing) e una verifica orale (Dialogue). Durante la prova scritta sarà verificata anche l'abilità di ascolto con una prova di Listening Comprehension. L'esame ha una votazione complessiva di 100, poiché ogni prova vale 25 punti.
Sono esonerati dal sostenere le prove di lettorato colori i quali sono in possesso delle certificazioni indicate sopra (se conseguite da non più di DUE anni). Anche nel caso in cui lo studente sia già in possesso di una certificazione pertinente, si consiglia di partecipare alle attività di esercitazione al fine di mantenere e consolidare il livello di competenza acquisito.
Gli studenti possono iscriversi alle prove di lettorato e prendere visione dei risultati al sito https://elearning.cli.unipi.it.
Gli studenti potranno sostenere l'esame relativo al corso del docente anche prima di aver superato le prove relative alle esercitazioni (ma solo dopo aver completato quelle di Lingua e Traduzione Inglese I).
La verifica delle conoscenze relative alle esercitazioni avverrà per tutti solo a conclusione delle esercitazioni stesse, quindi a partire da giugno.
Le prove relative alle esercitazioni, o lettorato (scritto, ascolto, e orale), possono essere sostenute separatamente. La validità del risultato positivo è DUE anni accademici (la stessa delle certificazioni internazionali riconosciute). Perciò, se ad esempio una persona ha superato lo scritto ma non la prova di ascolto, può ridare la prova di ascolto entro due anni conservando il punteggio dello scritto. Dopo due anni qualsiasi risultato parziale decade e la prova deve essere sostenuta nuovamente.
Il voto riportato nel corso del docente, quello riportato nel corso del Laboratorio e quello ottenuto nelle verifiche relative alle esercitazioni (espresso in centesimi) concorrono al voto finale. Il voto finale è unico e i crediti sono assegnati dal docente titolare in un’unica soluzione al completamento delle varie parti.
Si ricorda che le prove relative al modulo docente hanno validità di TRE anni.
1) Exam with the lecturer. This is a written exam in English, lasting two hours and consisting of one or two open-ended questions on theoretical issues and an analysis of a Source Text and its translation (dictionaries can be used).
2) Laboratory exam (translation).
3) Instrumental language test (ex lettorati). The final test will follow the Cambridge exam format. A written test will include Use of English, Reading Comprehension and Text Writing, and the oral will include an Interview. During the written test, Listening-Comprehension skills will also be tested. The overall mark is 100 points, and each part is awarded 25 points.
The students who have a language certificate obtained within two years prior to the conclusion of the exam are not requested to pass the instrumental language test. They are recommended to attend classes to consolidate their skills.
Students can enroll on instrumental language classes and check their results at the following address https://elearning.cli.unipi.it.
Students are allowed to take the exam with their lecturer even before passing the instrumental language test (but only after having completed the various parts of the exam of English Language and Translation I).
The instrumental language test will take place for the first time in June, at the end of the classes. The various parts can be taken separately, in different sessions. A positive result is valid for two years, like international certificates. So, if a student passes the written part but not the listening, he/she can re-take the listening part while his/her written mark is saved for later. After two years, though, partial marks will no longer be saved.
The mark for the Course exam, that for the Laboratory exam and the mark for the Instrumental language test (out of 100) will all be taken into account by the lecturer when recording the overall mark on the libretto. There is only one mark on the libretto, corresponding to the overall number of credits.
The results of the Course exam with the lecturer are valid for THREE years.
Il corso della docente inizierà il 3 ottobre 2016. A partire dalla prima settimana di ottobre e fino a metà novembre, l'orario del ricevimento studenti sarà il lunedì dalle 10:00 alle 11:30 (via Santa Maria 67, II piano, stanza 20).
