The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge not only of the most important sociological theories in community building as a tool of peace building, but also of the field of symbolic interactionism as a tool and perspective to understand community's functioning and processes. Furthermore, they will have the ability to understand micro, meso and macro social contexts, specially those affected by latent and explicit conflicts among parts in interaction.

Modelli e paradigmi principali degli Studi per la Pace
The first part of the course will introduce students to the foundations of general sociology (from classics to contemporary scholar and issues). The second part of the course will be mainly devoted to cover, from one side, the sociological theories of community building, from the other, the main fields in peace studies and peace research in the social sciences. Students will be introduced to the sociological perspective of symbolic interactionism as a tool to understand communities of practices' interactional processes.
