Conoscenza di alcune questioni fondamentali riguardo al rapporto fra responsabilità ed emozioni
Knowledge of some fundamental issues concerning the relationship between responsibility and emotions
Per la verifica delle conoscenze saranno rilevanti la partecipazione in classe, le presentazioni orali e l'esame finale.
For the assessment of knowledge, active participation in the seminar will be considered relevant, as well as oral presentations by the students. At the end of the course there will be an oral exam.

Students will acquire the capacity to prepare effective presentations, write handouts and useipad ipad and projector for powerpoint presentations

Emozioni e responsabilità. Atteggiamenti reattivi e atteggiamenti oggettivanti
Il seminario inizierà con alcune lezioni della docente in cui si affronteranno i temi seguenti: 1) verrà presentata una panoramica delle diverse teorie delle emozioni dal novecento ad oggi. 2) Si illustrerà il problema del rapporto fra responsabilità morale e biasimo a partire da “Freedom and Resentment,” il saggio di Strawson a cui si può far risalire, fra l’altro, la distinzione fra emozioni oggettivanti ed emozioni reattive. 3) Si evidenzieranno alcune tappe del dibattito sul rapporto fra responsabilità morale e biasimo (in particolare in riferimento alle riflessioni di Stephen Darwall, David Shoemaker, Michael McKenna). 4) Si affronterà la distinzione fra ira, indignazione, odio, e si indagherà il rapporto fra odio e pregiudizio.
Dopo le prime lezioni introduttive si passerà ad una parte prettamente seminariale, in cui gli studenti faranno presentazioni individuali o di gruppo su diversi testi. Potranno affrontare particolari emozioni (ad esempio ira, indignazione, odio, disprezzo, disgusto) indagandole dal punto di vista della distinzione fra atteggiamenti reattivi ed oggettivanti, esporre aspetti particolari del dibattito teorico sul rapporto fra responsabilità e biasimo, o dedicarsi al rapporto fra pregiudizio e odio.
Emotions and responsibility. Reactive attitudes and objectifying attitudes
The seminar will start with a few lectures in which the professor will introduce the main themes: 1) theories of emotions from the twentieth century to the present. 2) the problem of the relationship between moral responsibility and blame, starting from "Freedom and Resentment," the essay by Strawson which originally presented the distinction between objectifying emotions and reactive emotions. 3) the debate on the relationship between moral responsibility and blame (in particular with reference to the reflections by Stephen Darwall, David Shoemaker, Michael McKenna). 4) the distinction betweenanger, indignation, hatred. 5) the relationship between hatred, stereotyping and prejudice.
After the first introductory lessons, we will switch to a seminar format: students will give individual or group presentations on different topics, followed by a general discussion. Some presentations will discuss specific emotions (for example anger, indignation, hatred, contempt, disgust) in light of the distinction between reactive and objectifying attitudes; other presentations will address aspects of the theoretical debate on the relationship between responsibility and blame, or concentrate on the relationship between prejudice and hate.
