The purpose of this course is to allow students to develop a basic knowledge of the Italian history during the 19th and 20th centuries, in particular Italy's political dynamics, keeping in mind the socio-economic and cultural changes that happened along two centuries.
Course topics include, among others, the Risorgimento, the creation of the Italian Kingdom, the Great War, Fascism, the Second World War, the birth of Italian Republics and its main events up to the 1990s.
Both in the mid-term written exam and the final written exam, students should demonstrate to have acquired knowledge of the most relevants events dealt with in class, to thoroughly deal with topics and to critically address the questions.
Classes are divided into two parts. In the first part, students will have to discuss the assigned reading (available on the Pisa university e-learning web-site); in the second part, the professor will present a specific topic through power point presentations.
The course will start on March 4 and ends on May 29.

Attendance is compulsary. Non-attending students are not allowed to take the exam.
The final mark will be based on:
1) Class attendance.Students have to attend at least 85% of classes. They are required to actively contribute to the discussion on the readings that are assigned and on the sources that might be presented in class. 30% of the final grade will be based on that.
2) A mid-term exam, based on the assigned readings and on what has been discussed in class during the first half of the course. The exam will represent 30% of the final grade.
4) A final written exam, based on the assigned readings and on what has been discussed in class during the course. The exam will represent 40% of the final grade.
Starting from March 11, the course will be taught via google meet.
