The module in Aesthetics aims at giving a wide outline of modern philosophical thought regarding contemporary aesthetical questions on the meaning of art and literature. The title of this module is “On translation”: during this course students will learn how and what a translation is or, better said, is supposed to be and its different interpretations.
This module takes into account some contemporary and representative texts, describing how the aesthetical approach includes a deep reflection on the narrative forms in which philosophy takes form.
Contemporary essays about translating not only as linguistical problem, but as philosophical question (such as John Sallis’s On translation and Umberto Eco’s Experiences in Translation) will be discussed with a special regard to the role of language and its use as privileged instrument for thinking and interpreting.
Students will become familiar with the question of translating from a hermeneutic-philosophical point of view. Thsìis module will support students not only in devoloping their critical sense and capacity of judging, but also their awareness of the use of language.
