Arcaico, primordiale, selvaggio: attorno e oltre l'idea di primitivismo nell'arte d'età contemporanea
Il corso - di carattere istituzionale - si baserà su una serie di approfondimenti dedicati a opere, artisti, esposizioni, con un particolare focus sui "Primitivismi" nell'arte di età contemporanea. Saranno discussi fra l'altro i principali strumenti e materiali per lo studio della storia dell'arte contemporanea e si tenterà, ove possibile, di tracciare una linea di collegamento tra esperienze storicizzate e la produzione presente.
Archaic, primordial, savage: around and beyond the idea of Primitivism in modern and contemporary art
The course – in its institutional nature - will be based on a series of in-depth studies dedicated to works, artists, exhibitions, with a special focus on Primitivism in the XIX and XX century. We will discuss, among other, the main tools and materials for the study of modern and contemporary art history and we will try, where possible, to draw a line between historicized experiences and present production.
La graduale acquisizione delle conoscenze sarà verificata già durante le lezioni attraverso brevi esercitazioni, compiute dal docente insieme agli studenti di fronte a immagini.
Questo metodo di verifica potrà essere sistematicamente applicato da ciascuno studente durante la preparazione dell’esame, utilizzando la raccolta di immagini proiettate durante le lezioni (messe a disposizione su moodle e in biblioteca al termine del corso).
The gradual acquisition of knowledge will be verified already during the lessons through short exercises, performed by the Professor together with the students. This assessment method can be systematically applied by each student during the preparation of the exam, by using the collection of images projected during the lessons (made available on moodle and in the library at the end of the course).
Al termine del corso e dopo aver superato l'esame, lo studente sarà in grado di discutere temi ed esperienze della storia dell’arte contemporanea e di riconoscere materiali e forme dei nuovi linguaggi artistici. Lo studente sarà in grado altresì di impostare esperienze di ricerca su temi d’arte contemporanea (da seminari a tesi di laurea), avendo acquisito, fra l’altro, conoscenze relative alle diverse forme di documentazione e all’uso delle fonti per lo studio della storia dell’arte contemporanea.
At the end of the course and after passing the exam, the student will be able to discuss topics and experiences in modern and contemporary art history and to recognize materials and forms of new artistic languages. The student will also be able to set up experiences of research on modern and contemporary art topics (from seminars to thesis), having acquired, among other things, knowledge related to the different forms of documentation and use of sources for the study of modern and contemporary art history.
Lo studente potrà verificare le proprie capacità esercitandosi – in vista delle prove d’esame – in forma scritta e orale su documenti figurativi d’età contemporanea. Intervenendo durante le lezioni, e segnatamente durante le esercitazioni con opere, lo studente potrà mettere alla prova le proprie capacità di individuare i linguaggi dell’arte contemporanea e le caratteristiche tecnico-materiali delle opere d’arte del XIX e del XX secolo.
Ulteriori, importanti e auspicabili occasioni di verifica potranno essere compiute visitando musei e mostre di opere d'arte contemporanea, con particolare riferimento alle collezioni museali suggerite dal docente durante le lezioni.
The student will be able to verify his / her own skills by practicing - in view of the exam - in written and oral description of figurative documents from the contemporary age. By intervening during the lessons, and especially during the exercises, the student can put to the test their ability to identify the languages of modern and contemporary art and the technical and material characteristics of the 19th and the 20th-century works of art. In addition, important and desirable opportunities for verification can be seized by visiting museums and exhibitions of contemporary works of art, with particular reference to the museum collections suggested by the Professor during his lessons.
Attraverso il corso lo studente potrà acquisire la capacità di analizzare e presentare in pubblico problemi relativi a opere d’arte contemporanea; potrà acquisire conoscenze sulle diverse forme di documentazione, bibliografica e non, relative al contemporaneo, riuscendo a impostare progetti di ricerca, anche di carattere multidisciplinare, in quest’ambito di studio.
Through the course the student will acquire the ability to analyze and present in public issues related to contemporary works of art; s/he will be able to acquire knowledge on the various forms of documentation, either bibliographical or not, related to contemporary art, to set up research projects, also of a multidisciplinary nature, in this field of study.
I comportamenti richiesti saranno sottoposti a verifica durante lo svolgimento delle esercitazioni in aula (per gli studenti frequentanti) e in occasione dei ricevimenti (per tutti gli studenti).
The requested methodologies will be verified during classroom exercises (for attending students) and during receiving hours (for all students).
Lo studente deve sapersi orientare all’interno di una biblioteca universitaria; deve essere disposto a visitare musei e mostre d’arte contemporanea e, preferibilmente, deve aver già avuto occasioni di confronto con l’arte contemporanea (ad esempio visitando uno o più musei dedicati a opere del XIX e XX secolo, italiani e non; rassegne espositive importanti come la Biennale di Venezia, mostre in gallerie private d’arte, ecc).
Gli studenti che non abbiano, durante il corso di studi triennale, già sostenuto un esame di Storia dell'arte contemporanea sono invitati a prendere contatto con il docente per valutare eventuali integrazioni o modifiche del programma d'esame.
Agli studenti che desiderino colmare eventuali lacune di base si raccomanda la lettura di un manuale, quale, ad esempio: C. Bertelli, Storia dell’arte, Bruno Mondadori, Milano 2010, vol. 4 (a partire dalla p. 1087) e vol. 5 (tutto).
The student must know how to use a library; s/he must be willing to visit museums and contemporary art exhibitions and, preferably but not necessarily, must have already had opportunity to study contemporary art.
Il corso si basa su una serie di lezioni frontali, realizzate dal docente con l’ausilio di immagini proiettate. Durante le lezioni, sporadicamente si svolgeranno brevi esercitazioni, basate sulla lettura e discussione di una o più immagini relative ai temi del corso.
È auspicabile che in occasione delle lezioni e, soprattutto, dei ricevimenti, gli studenti (frequentanti e non) si rivolgano al docente per chiarire problemi relativi alla preparazione dell’esame. I ricevimenti sono preziose occasioni per rendere più semplice ed efficace lo studio della bibliografia in programma d’esame.
The course is based on a series of lectures, created by the Professor with the help of projected images. During the lessons, he will sporadically carry out short exercises, based on the reading and discussion of one or more images related to the course topics. It is desirable that during the lessons and, above all, the receiving hours, students (either attending or not) turn to the Professor to clarify problems related to the preparation of the exam. The receiving hours are precious occasions to make the study easier and more effective.
Durante le lezioni saranno esaminati in dettaglio alcuni passaggi cruciali della storia dell’arte contemporanea.
During the lessons some crucial passages of contemporary art history will be examined in detail.

Tutti gli studenti, frequentanti e non frequentanti, dei corsi di laurea triennale che si presentano con il programma dell’a.a. 2020-21 sosterranno l'esame attraverso una prova scritta e una prova orale.
Il superamento della prova scritta è condizione indispensabile per accedere alla prova orale.
NOTA BENE: a causa delle limitazioni imposte dall'emergenza sanitaria, la prova scritta è temporaneamente abolita. In attesa di riprendere le attività in presenza, l'esame si svolge soltanto attraverso la prova orale (in aula virtuale Microsoft Teams, come da indicazioni dell'Ateneo).
All the students of the three-year degree courses that attend the course in the a.y. 2020-21 will sit a written test plus an oral exam.
Successfully passing the written test is a necessary condition to access the oral part.
