Lo/a studente/ssa acquisirà conoscenze e strumenti di analisi critica relativi ad alcune tematiche chiave della storia ebraica contemporanea su scala europea.
Students will acquire knowledge about some of the key categories and turning points of modern European Jewish history, and develop the analytical skills needed to critically engage with scholarship and with primary sources.

Lo/a studente/ssa affinerà le capacità di scrittura attraverso la stesura della tesina, che dovrà essere strutturata come un testo accademico con note e bibliografia.
In alternativa alla scrittura, gli studenti potranno scegliere di lavorare sull'affinare la capacità di strutturare una presentazione orale.
Entrambe le abilità sono fondamentali per il proseguimento degli studi e per la preparazione ad un percorso lavorativo dopo il conseguimento della laurea magistrale.
Students will develop their writing skills and their ability to structure an argument through the essay component of the assessment. The essay must be written in good academic style, complete with footnotes and bibliography.
As an alternative to the written essay, students may choose to prepare an oral presentation and to focus on developing their ability to engage with the audience.
In both case, students will acquire and develop transferrable skills, important for the continuation of their studies but also for their future career.

The course will
- enable students to analyze complex texts paying the necessary attention to the historical, cultural and social context, to the narrative and argumentative structure and to the language;
- enhance critical awareness;
- show how Jewish history and more in general the history of minorities can shed light on the majority culture and self-fashioning

Il corso prevede sia lezioni frontali tradizionali, con l'ausilio di power point, che incontri di natura seminariale. Per quanto riguarda le lezioni seminariali è di assoluta importanza che gli studenti preparino le letture che saranno indicate su Moodle a tempo debito. In caso contrario non sarà possibile avviare una conversazione. Si tratta di una responsabilità da assumersi anche nei confronti degli altri studenti.
The course will include lectures (power point presentations will be used and then provided to students) and seminar sessions. Preparation for the seminar sessions is mandatory. Instructions will be published on the Moodle page prior to the lesson.

Le letture da preparare saranno indicate a lezione. Se il corso si svolgerà in presenza sarà attivata la piattaforma Moodle, altrimenti le indicazioni e i testi saranno su Teams. Potranno essere in inglese o in italiano. Ove possibile sarà allegato direttamente il pdf. Questi testi costituiranno parte integrante del programma d'esame.
Gli studenti che non se la sentono di leggere in inglese sono pregati di mettersi in contatto con la docente quanto prima. Gli studenti che volessero approfondire un caso particolare leggendo anche bibliografia in altre lingue sono ugualmente pregati di mettersi in contatto con la docente.
