Il seminario prevede di fornire una conoscenza del concetto di "forma simbolica" di Ernst Cassirer come strumento filosofico di analisi dei fenomeni storico-culturali.
The seminar aims to provide an introduction to Ernst Cassirer's concept of 'symbolic form' as a philosophical tool for analysing cultural-historical phenomena.
Il raggiungimento degli obiettivi formativi sarà verificato tramite esercizi e discussioni di carattere seminariale e laboratoriali, completati da un colloquio finale.
The achievement of the educational objectives will be verified through seminar and workshop exercises and discussions, followed by a final colloquium.

The knowledge and skills acquired will be tested in class by means of discussion and comparison between the participants around the study material, as well as a final interview in which the themes and topics developed during the seminar will be taken up.

Il corso avrà una natura prevalentemente seminariale, pertanto, una volta presentati i temi e gli strumenti che si intendono utilizzare, verrà proposto ai partecipanti un percorso di messa in pratica di tale strumentazione metodologica nella lettura di un testo scelto come "caso di studio". Alla fine della parte laboratoriale, sarà chiesto ai partecipanti di sviluppare una personale ricerca e lettura intorno a parte del materiale proposto.
The course will be mainly seminar-based, therefore, once the themes and tools to be used have been presented, participants will be asked to put these methodological tools into practice by reading a text chosen as a "case study". At the end of the workshop, participants will be asked to develop a personal research and analysis of some of the material proposed.
La filosofia delle forme simboliche di Ernst Cassirer e un caso di studio: Lo spaccio de la bestia trionfante di Giordano Bruno.
Il seminario intende sviluppare il tema delle "metodologie della ricerca filosofica" partendo da una presentazione della teoria delle forme simboliche di Ernst Cassirer (1874-1945), un metodo che Cassirer sviluppa a partire dagli anni '20 del Novecento per applicare ed estendere la sua prospettiva filosofica - derivata dal criticismo neo- e post-kantiano - a tutti gli ambiti della cultura umana. Attraverso le lezioni introduttive ai problemi esaminati si vedrà, infatti, come la nozione di "forma simbolica" sia uno strumento di indagine filosofica e culturale che ha i propri fondamenti teorici sia nei concetti matematici di funzione e di simbolo, sia nella ripresa di elementi di analisi estetica e antropologica mutuati dal lavoro di ricerca degli studiosi che afferivano alla Biblioteca Warburg di Amburgo. Una volta analizzate la genesi e la funzione di questo particolare strumento di analisi dei problemi filosofici, lo si proverà ad applicare ad un particolare testo, Lo spaccio de la bestia trionfante di Giordano Bruno (1584). La scelta di questa opera è motivata dal fatto che essa fu oggetto di discussione tra Ernst Cassirer e Aby Warburg proprio sul tema del valore dei simboli come strumento di indagine filosofico-culturale nella prima età moderna. Il seminario si concluderà con il coinvolgimento personale dei partecipanti nell'elaborazione di una ricerca e applicazione delle metodologie studiate al testo preso in esame.
Ernst Cassirer's philosophy of symbolic forms and a case study: Giordano Bruno's Lo spaccio de la bestia trionfante.
The seminar intends to develop the theme of "methodologies of philosophical research" starting with a presentation of Ernst Cassirer's (1874-1945) theory of symbolic forms, a method that Cassirer developed from the 1920s in order to apply and extend his philosophical perspective - derived from neo- and post-Kantian criticism - to all areas of human culture. Through the introductory lectures to the problems examined, it will be seen, in fact, how the notion of "symbolic form" is an instrument of philosophical and cultural investigation that has its theoretical foundations both in the mathematical concepts of function and symbol, and in the recovery of elements of aesthetic and anthropological analysis borrowed from the research work of the scholars who were part of the Warburg Library in Hamburg. Once the genesis and function of this particular instrument of analysis of philosophical problems have been analysed, we will try to apply it to a particular text, Giordano Bruno's Lo spaccio de la bestia trionfante (1584). The choice of this work is motivated by the fact that it was the object of discussion between Ernst Cassirer and Aby Warburg on the theme of the value of symbols as a tool for philosophical and cultural investigation in the early modern age. The seminar will end with the personal involvement of the participants in the elaboration of a research and application of the methodologies studied to the text examined.
