Syllabus

Fundamentals of art history (prof. Alessandro Tosi)

The course aims to provide an overview on the history of art in Italy and in Europe from the 15th to the beginning of the 19th century (1400-1815)

Museology for Tourism (prof.ssa Alexandra Andresen)

The course introduces participants to the history and the evolution of temporary exhibitions in Europe focusing on unique features of Italian artistic heritage.

All exhibitions start with a key concept that informs all decisions made in its development. This module explores the processes involved in developing that concept into a concrete exhibition project and provides a behind-the-scenes view of exhibition organization from the people who are actively involved in its preparation.

Topics include exhibition organization planning and scheduling, financial and administrative aspects, liaising with other museums and loans procedures, insurance and government indemnity, works of art preservation problems and transportation methods as well as visitor engagement, intellectual and physical accessibility, sustainability and “Green” issues. Emerging best-practice models, frameworks and tools are introduced and discussed in depth through case studies and interactive workshops encourage students to acquire problem-solving skills through assignments and workshops. We also take a look at European cultural Institutions and programs new lines of research, training opportunities.

An in-depth study will be dedicated to the history and development of the Museums - from the Renaissance collections to the contemporary art museums - and to the analysis of its functions.
