Obiettivo del corso è quello di fornire una preparazione e una capacità critica rispetto ai principali temi della storia contemporanea, a partire dal Congresso di Vienna. A tal scopo un'attenzione particolare è riservata alle dinamiche di trasformazione dei processi storici analizzati sia nell'ottica della storia politica, sia in quella economica e sociale. Gli aspetti sociali, in particolare, sono posti in luce utilizzando chiavi di lettura di natura culturale, dalla musica, alle arti figurative, alla stampa e alla cinematografia
The aim of the course is to provide a preparation and a critical capacity with respect to the main themes of contemporary history, starting from the Vienna Congress. For this purpose, particular attention is paid to the dynamics of transformation of the historical processes analyzed both in the perspective of political history, both in economic and social terms. The social aspects, in particular, are highlighted using keys of cultural nature, from music, to visual arts, to printing and cinematography.

Le capacità che l'insegnamento intende sviluppare consistono nella lettura critica, ed approfondita, delle grandi trasformazioni della storia contemporanea, in maniera tale da mettere lo studente nelle condizioni di disporre di una visione complessiva utile per il suo successivo percorso di studi e di svolgere letture comparate.

L'insegnamento ha ad oggetto i principali temi della storia contemporanea, a partire dal Congresso di Vienna fino alla crisi del 2008. Si affrontano così le questioni legate al processo di costruzione degli Stati ottocenteschi, al difficile rapporto tra masse ed élites, alle dinamiche dello sviluppo economico e allo scoppio dei conflitti, regionali e mondiali. Una particolare attenzione è riservata all' analisi degli strumenti di costruzione del consenso nelle diverse fasi della storia contemporanea e del linguaggio politico ed economico dei movimenti e dei partiti.
The course deals with the main topics of contemporary history, starting from the Congress of Vienna up to the 2008 crisis. The questions related to the process of building the nineteenth-century states, the difficult relationship between masses and élites, to the dynamics of economic development and the outbreak of regional and global conflicts. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the instruments of consensus building in the different phases of contemporary history and of the political and economic language of movements and parties.
