Conoscenze

Knowledge

The course is divided into two semesters. The course of the first semester offers a thorough introduction to hieroglyphic writing and to the linguistic system of Middle Egyptian, the classical phase of the ancient Egyptian language. By the end of the entire course, students will be able to analyze aspects of the ancient Egyptian language and culture through the reading and analysis of textual sources in hieroglyphic writing.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

Oral exam after the end of the course.

Skills

The student who successfully completes the course will be able to read, translate and analyze an ancient Egyptian text in Middle Egyptian of middle difficulty, and put in its proper context.

Assessment criteria of skills

There will be reading exercises and seminars in class during the course. Final examination.

The two modules constitute a single examination. Only students enrolled for years prior to 2022-23, who have the examinations of "Lingua egiziana" and "Filologia egiziana" in their syllabus, may take the examination for the corresponding modules separately.

Comportamenti

Behaviors

The student will be able to acquire methodologies suitable for the analysis of ancient texts and non-alphabetic writings.

Modalità di verifica dei comportamenti
