Il corso di Storia delle Religioni si propone di offrire una riflessione sul concetto di religione, in senso storico-comparativo, in particolare prendendo in considerazione le varie manifestazioni di quell’atteggiamento umano che si qualifica come “religioso”; il modulo per gli studenti della laurea magistrale è essenzialmente consacrato all'approfondimento di un argomento in particolare, che cambierà di anno in anno.
Quest'anno il corso, destinato principalmente agli studenti iscritti al percorso in lingua inglese si articolerà in due moduli, che saranno calibrati in base agli studenti che grequentano. Le lezioni saranno svolte in lingua inglese (a meno che non vi siano esclusivamente studenti italiani).
The course aims at offering a general reflection on the notion of religion, essentially by using a historical and comparative method.
In the current year, the course is mainly intended for the students enrolled in the Master’s degree Programme “Ancient Egypt and Western Asia: archaeology, history and languages” (AEWA) and therefore the lessons will be delivered in English, unless there are only Italian students attending the class.
Esame orale, che verterà sia sugli argomenti trattati a lezione sia sullo studio degli altri libri previsti dal programma (per i non frequentanti è disponibile programma apposito).
During the final oral exam, students will be assessed on their ability do discuss the main course contents (and the other books the study of which study is required) using appropriate terminology.
Nessun prerequisito in particolare, ma è consigliata la conoscenza delle lingue antiche (obbligatoria, naturalmente, per gli iscritti al corso di laurea in FISA). Sarebbe auspicabile anche aver sostenuto l'esame di Storia delle religioni A (i cui requisiti di base potranno essere integrati dalla lettura del manuale).
No prerequisite; however it is advisable to know ancient languages (Greek and Latin is mandatory for students belonging to Classical Philology and Ancient History classes). It would also be advisable to have followed Module A (although its basic requirements can be obtained by reading a manual).
Lezioni frontali. Il corso sarà svolto in inglese.
Il corso sarà inoltre integrato da alcuni seminari tenuti da specialisti del settore italiani e stranieri nell'ambito dell'iniziativa Seminari di Storia Antica, organizzati dalla docente e dai colleghi della sezione di storia antica del Dipartimento.
Face to face lessons (in English). Lectures will be delivered in compliance with the sanitary regulations adopted by the University.
Besides classes, students are required to attend the additional seminaries arranged by the professors of the Seminar of Ancient History and taught by some national and international specialists.
Il corso sarà scandito in due moduli, di durata variabile in base al numero e agli interessi degli studenti frequentanti.
Il primo modulo presenterà una rassegna degli aspetti più importanti della disciplina storico-religiosa.
Il corso monografico sarà dedicato alla diffusione del Cristianesimo in Cina in età moderna, con particolare attenzione all'opera di Athanasius Kircher, China Illustrata (1667) e più in generale alla strategia di "accomodamento" perseguita dai Gesuiti.
Il presente programma è esclusivamente per gli studenti frequentanti. I non frequentanti possono fare riferimento alle indicazioni nei programmi "Storia delle Religioni B".

Si richiede inoltre la lettura di
M. Eliade, History of Religious Ideas (3 volumes)
The course is divided into two parts, whose content and length varies depending on the number and interests of the attending students.
The first module presents a review of the most important aspects of the historical-religious discipline.
The monographic course is devoted to the spread of Christianity in China during the modern age, and is centered on Athanasius Kircher's China Illustrata (1667) and more generally to the strategy of "accommodation" pursued by the Jesuits.
The present program applies to attending students only. Non attending foreign students please contact the professor. Non attending Italian students, please refer to the program listed under "Storia delle Religioni B".
In addition to the materials discussed during the class, attending students are required to study the following books:
D.E. Mungello, Curious Land: Jesuit Accommodation and The Origins of Sinology
J. Spence, The Palace of Memory of Matteo Ricci
Students are also required to read and study the three volumes of
M. Eliade, History of Religious Ideas.
