Il corso offre un'introduzione al Romanticismo tedesco e ai suoi moderni riaffioramenti attraverso la lettura e l’analisi di opere selezionate. Gli studenti che completeranno il corso saranno in grado di esprimersi in modo argomentato sulle principali questioni inerenti all’epoca storico-letteraria in questione, alla sua periodizzazione e ai testi in esame. Avranno inoltre acquisito le conoscenze necessarie per affrontare criticamente e in maniera fondata i temi, le correnti e gli autori principali del periodo in esame.
The course offers an introduction to German Romanticism and its modern re-emergences through the reading and analysis of selected works. Students completing the course will be able to express themselves in a reasoned way on the main issues concerning the historical period under analysis, the literature in question, its periodization and the texts. By the end of the course they will also have acquired the necessary knowledge to critically and fundamentally deal with the main themes, currents and authors of the period under consideration.

Più in generale, il corso ha l'obiettivo di migliorare le capacità nell'analisi e nella contestualizzazione dei singoli brani, che verranno affrontati in traduzione e nella loro lingua originale. L’obiettivo della lettura di brani in lingua, tra i testi selezionati, è sviluppare negli studenti capacità di ordine ermeneutico, oltre che strettamente linguistico. Ci si focalizzerà pertanto sull'analisi tematica e stilistica, con riferimenti alla teoria e alla storia dei generi letterari in esame, e alla questione della riscrittura.
The course aims to improve the student's ability to analyze and contextualize individual passages, which will be addressed in translation and in the original language. The objective of reading extracts in German taken from the selected bibliography is to improve the students’ ability of hermeneutical and linguistic order. The focus will therefore be on thematic and stylistic analysis, with references to the theory and history of the literary genres under consideration, and the question concerning the rewriting.
Come modalità di verifica si prevedono momenti di discussione in classe e prove scritte in itinere, in conformità con gli obiettivi del progetto di eccellenza CECIL.
Class discussions are planned as a means of assessment and written tests during the course, in accordance with the objectives of the CECIL excellence project.
Dopo aver frequentato il corso, gli studenti saranno in grado di condurre una discussione critica sui testi in programma in modo appropriato e coerente, avendo preventivamente acquisito competenze precise nella materia, sulla base delle lezioni svolte e della bibliografia proposta dal docente. Nel novero di tali competenze rientrano sia il possesso delle nozioni fondamentali della materia, sia la capacità di disporre argomentativamente di tali nozioni.
After attending the course, students will be able to appropriately conduct a critical and coherent discussion of the texts, after having previously acquired precise skills in the subject on the basis of the lessons and the bibliography proposed by their Professor. These skills include both the possession of the fundamentals of the subject and the ability to dispose of these notions argumentatively.
La verifica dei comportamenti avverrà attraverso momenti di discussione in classe e prove in itinere, oltre che durante gli eventuali colloqui individuali in sede di ricevimento studenti.
Student’s behaviour will be assessed through discussion in class and written tests, as well as during any individual interviews during the office hours.

Lezioni frontali in lingua italiana, lettura e traduzione dei testi in originale. A complemento delle conoscenze e competenze acquisite a lezione sono necessari la lettura integrale dei testi trattati e un lavoro di approfondimento autonomo dei manuali e dei testi critici in bibliografia. Il corso prevede la lettura, la traduzione e il commento di brani scelti in lingua, che lo studente dovrà preparare per l’esame finale. Per un miglior coordinamento studenti-docente si farà uso della piattaforma “Teams”.
Lectures in Italian, reading and translation of original texts. To complement the knowledge and skills acquired in class, the student is required to read all the texts which are discussed in class and must also carry out independent study on manuals and critical texts included in the bibliography. The course includes the reading, translation and commentary of extracts chosen in German, activities that the student must take into account for the preparation of the final exam. For better student-teacher coordination, the “Teams” platform will be used.
Il Romanticismo tedesco e i suoi riaffioramenti moderni
L’età romantica ha inciso profondamente sulla concezione moderna dell’arte e della letteratura, sia in relazione al modo di intendere il rapporto tra fantasia e realtà, sia per quanto riguarda la rielaborazione dei miti e dei modelli tradizionali. È l’età in cui gli sviluppi dei saperi scientifici e filosofici si intrecciano con i più radicali mutamenti nella vita sociale, politica ed economica, mentre esplode la questione nazionale: Rivoluzione e Restaurazione sono i poli cronologici e dialettici che la comprendono, e tuttavia la sua eredità ci riguarda ancora oggi. Durante il corso si entrerà nel laboratorio poetico e sociale del Romanticismo tedesco, tracciandone un bilancio attraverso l’analisi delle opere e delle riscritture da cui deriva il suo ruolo di avanguardia nella letteratura moderna e contemporanea.
German Romanticism and its modern re-emergences
The Romantic Age had a profound effect on the modern conception of art and literature, both in relation to the way the relationship between fantasy and reality was understood and in the remaking of traditional myths and models. It is the age in which the developments of scientific and philosophical knowledge intertwine with the most radical changes in social, political and economic life, while the national question explodes: Revolution and Restoration are the chronological and dialectical poles that encompass it, and yet its legacy still concerns us today. During the course we will enter the poetic and social laboratory of German Romanticism, drawing a balance through the analysis of the works and rewritings from which it derives its pioneering role in modern and contemporary literature.

The study of the critical appendixes, notes and, where available, prefaces to the texts on the programme is highly recommended.
Non-attending students are asked to contact the lecturer before the exam to check how to prepare for the exam.
La prova è orale e consiste in un colloquio tra lo studente e il docente riguardo ai contenuti del corso. Il docente accerterà inoltre la conoscenza della monografia in programma (critica) e di passi in lingua tedesca scelti dai testi trattati durante il corso. L’obiettivo della prova in itinere (indicativamente a metà semestre) è valutare le conoscenze acquisite tramite la frequenza alle lezioni svolte in precedenza e la lettura dei testi in programma. La prova in itinere è facoltativa, ma nella prova finale la si tiene in considerazione.
The test is oral and consists of a talk between the student and the lecturer on the course content. The lecturer will also ascertain the student's knowledge of the monograph on the syllabus (Criticism) and of passages in German selected from the texts examined during the course. The aim of the test during the course (approximately mid-semester) is evaluating the knowledge acquired through the attendance to the relative lessons and the reading of the texts included in the programme. This test “in itinere” is optional, but it is taken into account in the final examination.
