Il corso affronterà i lineamenti fondamentali della storia contemporanea tra la fine del XVIII secolo e l'inizio del XXI secolo, in una prospettiva globale, con particolare attenzione alle dinamiche transnazionali di lungo periodo.
Obiettivi di base del corso: la conoscenza dei principali elementi fattuali della storia europea e mondiale, quali il processo di costruzione dello Stato in età contemporanea, lo sviluppo della società di massa, la globalizzazione; la capacità di collocare detti elementi fattuali nel tempo e nello spazio, e di esporli in modo chiaro e distinto;
Obiettivi caratterizzanti del corso: la concettualizzazione dei processi di mutamento nel tempo; la comprensione dei nessi di relazione tra i fenomeni, dei loro rapporti di causalità e multi causalità; l'utilizzo del linguaggio specifico della disciplina.
The course will cover the fundamentals of contemporary history between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 21st century, from a global perspective, with a focus on long-term transnational dynamics.
Basic course objectives: the knowledge of the main factual elements of European and world history, such as the process of state-building in the contemporary age, the development of mass society, globalisation; the ability to situate these factual elements in time and space, and to present them clearly and distinctly;
Characterising objectives of the course: the conceptualisation of the processes of change over time; the understanding of the links between phenomena, their causal and multi-causal relationships; the use of the specific language of the discipline.

Expected behaviours at the end of the course: use of the main tools of the historical method for the analysis of the main issues in the contemporary world; identification of the main problematic and interpretative nodes of the historiographical debate; correct use of the specific language of the discipline.

Il corso affronterà in maniera critica e facendo riferimento al dibattito storiografico i principali eventi, processi e questioni della storia contemporanea in chiave globale, dalla seconda metà del XVIII secolo all'inizio del XXI secolo.
Nel corso della prima lezione verrà presentata la scaletta dettagliata del corso, che sarà poi caricata sulla piattaforma di e-learning dell'Università.

The course will deal critically and with reference to the historiographical debate with the main events, processes and issues of contemporary history from a global perspective, from the second half of the 18th century to the beginning of the 21st century.
During the first lecture, the detailed course outline will be presented, which will then be uploaded onto the University's e-learning platform.
The main topics addressed in the lectures will be the following:

4) The Industrial Revolutions and the Birth of Mass Society

10) The Cold War and decolonisation

Esame si svolge in modalità orale al termine del corso.
Le/i frequentanti potranno, su base volontaria, svolgere l'esame in forma scritta attraverso verifiche in itinere.
L'esame verificherà l’acquisizione dei contenuti, delle capacità delle competenze e dei comportamenti indicati nel programma.
In particolare i quesiti proposti sonderanno la capacità di inquadrare i temi oggetti del corso nel loro contesto spazio-temporale, articolando l’esposizione in termini chiari ed efficaci; a misurare la padronanza di contenuti ben delimitati e la capacità di operare connessioni di relazione e di causalità; ad approfondire conoscenze più specifiche, e di concettualizzare le questioni storiografiche maggiormente rilevanti.

Examination is conducted orally at the end of the course
Attending students may, on a voluntary basis, take the examination in written form by means of in-progress testing.
The examination will test the acquisition of the content, skills and behavioural abilities indicated in the syllabus.
In particular, the proposed questions will test the ability to place the topics covered by the course in their spatial-temporal context, articulating the exposition in clear and effective terms; to measure the mastery of well-defined content and the ability to make connections of relationship and causality; to deepen more specific knowledge, and to conceptualise the most relevant historiographical issues.

Il corso può essere frequentato e l'esame sostenuto esclusivamente da studentesse e studenti del corso di laurea in Scienze dei Beni Culturali (istituzioni di storia contemporanea - 076MM)
Le lezioni inizieranno mercoledì 20 settembre alle ore 08.30 in aula SR A1 (Polo San Rossore 1938) e proseguiranno il mercoledì ee il giovedì dalle 08.30 alle 10 sempre in aula SRA1 fino a giovedì 21 dicembre.
The course may only be attended and the examination taken by students of the degree course in Scienze dei Beni Culturali (IIstituzioni di Storia contemporanea - 076MM)
Classes will begin on Wednesday, 20 September at 8.30 a.m. in classroom SR A1 (Polo San Rossore 1938) and will continue on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8.30 a.m. to 10 a.m. also in classroom SRA1 until Thursday, 21 December.
