Il corso si divide in due moduli:
- Preistoria dei cacciatori-raccoglitori, I semestre (Elisabetta Starnini)
- Preistoria della complessità sociale, II semestre (Niccolò Mazzucco).
Attraverso i due moduli, il corso prevede l'acquisizione di conoscenza approfondita delle tematiche trattate e delle problematiche attualmente dibattute nel settore della Preistoria. Inoltre, prevede lo sviluppo di capacità critica nell'esame delle fonti archeologiche a disposizione e delle interpretazioni offerte dalla letteratura scientifica di settore nazionale e ed internazionale.
Al termine del corso, in linea con l'evoluzione delle conoscenze disciplinari in ambito internazionale, la studentessa/lo studente sarà in grado di:
-identificare, comprendere, analizzare, descrivere e correlare i diversi fenomeni culturali succedutisi nel tempo
-descrivere, comprendere, analizzare e fornire esempi di adattamenti umani ai mutamenti climatici ed ambientali.
The student who successfully completes the course will be aware of organize a study related to a particular aspect of the topic discussed during the previous module of the course, through a successive steps work according to a logical path. The student will be able to demonstrate a critical capability on published data examination and evaluation. The student will reach the confidence in a colleagues discussion and will be able to demonstrate the strength of his/her positions.
The student will learn the methodology for the study of the material culture of the different periods and he/she will be aware of the main research topics, being able to self-orienting with sufficient autonomy in the specific literature.
At the end of the course, in line with the evolution of disciplinary knowledge in the international arena, the student will be able to:
-identify, describe, understand, analyse and correlate the different cultural phenomena that have occurred over time
-describe, understand, analyse and provide examples of human adaptations to climate and environmental changes.
Dialogo esplicativo durante le lezioni frontali e interazione con gli studenti, esame orale al termine del corso con domande che vertono sugli argomenti trattati.
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to organize an independent study apart from the teacher and in collaboration with his/her collegues, on the deepening of the literature research, on his/her ability to correctly explain the main topics discussed using the appropriate terminology and propriety of expression. Moreover, the student must demonstrate his/her capabiliy in debate participation during the teacher and colleague comparison.
Methods: oral exam
Gli studenti acquisiscono capacità critica sia nell'analisi dei documenti archeologici a disposizione sia dal confronto tra le diverse ipotesi interpretative, passate e presenti, offerte dalla letteratura scientifica. Acquisiscono inoltre capacità di riconoscimento dei vari aspetti specifici della cultura materiale del periodo preso in esame.
Students acquire critical skills both in the analysis of the archaeological data and in the comparison between the different interpretative hypotheses, past and current, offered by the scientific literature. They also acquire the ability to recognize the various specific aspects of the material culture of the period under consideration.
Dialogo critico durante le lezioni frontali con gli studenti a commento delle problematiche presentate, esame orale al termine del corso con domande mirate alla verifica dell'acquisizione di tali capacità.
Critical dialogue during the frontal lessons with the students to comment on the presented problems, oral exam at the end of the course with questions aimed at verifying the acquisition of these skills.
Lo studente viene guidato all'impostazione metodica dello studio delle testimonianze archeologiche, con l'esercizio di spirito critico nell'esame delle fonti a disposizione, nella consapevolezza che la ricerca scientifica è in costante evoluzione e di conseguenza anche le nostre conoscenze.
The student is guided to the methodical setting of the study of archaeological evidence, with the exercise of a critical spirit in the examination of the available sources, in the awareness that scientific research is constantly evolving and consequently also our knowledge
La verifica del comportamento avviene sia durante le lezioni mediante un dialogo con gli studenti, sia con un esame finale.
The verification of the behavior takes place both during the lessons through a dialogue with the students, and with a final oral exam.
Gli studenti devono aver seguito in precedenza almeno un corso base di Preistoria e Protostoria mediante il quale hanno acquisito le conoscenze generali sui metodi, problemi e temi della ricerca in questa disciplina, nonchè le linee di sviluppo generale dell'evoluzione biologica e culturale dell'uomo. Devono conoscere la lingua Inglese con un buon livello di lettura e comprensione dei testi.
Students must have previously attended at least one basic course in Prehistory and Protohistory through which they acquired general knowledge about the methods, problems and topics of research in this discipline, as well as the general outlines of development of the biological and cultural evolution of man.
Good knowledge of English language.

Il corso si svolge mediante 72 ore di lezioni frontali mediante l'utilizzo di proiezioni multimediali in ppt e con l'ausilio di materiale didattico esplicativo da manipolare.
Le lezioni sono rese disponibili in formato pdf agli studenti; i docenti sono sempre disponibili a dialogare con gli studenti sia in aula durante le lezioni, sia via email o durante il ricevimento.
The course takes place through 72 hours of lectures through the use of multimedia projections in ppt and with the help of explanatory educational material to be manipulated.

Il Programma dell'AA 2023-2024 tratterà alcuni argomenti di attualità nella ricerca sulla Preistoria europea, tra cui le manifestazioni simboliche dei cacciatori del Paleolitico europeo, problemi del Mesolitico in Egeo e Balcani, le prime miniere, la Neolitizzazione in Europa e il fenomeno della Bandkeramik, gli insediamenti a tell in Europa, l'inizio dell'uso degli oggetti in metallo, il fenomeno del Campaniforme e l'età del Rame in Europa, la crescita della complessità sociale, l'esame dei contesti funerari quali indicatori del mutamento socio-economico determinato dall'inizio della metallurgia, le espressioni simboliche e rituali.
Sarà trattata brevemente anche la storia, i protagonisti della ricerca e l'identità di questa disciplina, le diverse narrative nazionali che inevitabilmente contribuiscono ad arricchire il quadro interpretativo e le visioni dello sviluppo culturale della storia più antica d'Europa e dell'idea stessa di preistoria nel continente europeo.
- Preistoria dei cacciatori-raccoglitori, I semestre (Elisabetta Starnini)
Il corso “Preistoria dei cacciatori-raccoglitori”, I° modulo di Preistoria e Protostoria Europea (1342L), affronta l’evoluzione delle prime forme di struttura sociale delle popolazioni preistoriche di cacciatori-raccoglitori, l’organizzazione in bande nomadi o semi-sedentarie e le società tribali a partire dal Pleistocene inferiore fino all’Olocene. Il corso esplora quindi anche temi di archeologia sociale, cercando nel registro archeologico gli indizi materiali del mutamento nelle relazioni tra generi, tra individui di una stessa comunità e tra comunità umane di diversa origine geografica e/o etnico-culturale. Verranno anche discussi spunti offerti dal record etnografico per l’interpretazione delle società estinte.
- Preistoria della complessità sociale, II semestre (Niccolò Mazzucco)
Il corso “Preistoria della complessità sociale”, II° modulo di Preistoria e Protostoria Europea (1342L), affronta il cambiamento delle strutture sociali delle società preistoriche, dall’organizzazione tribale sino alle prime società di classe. Il corso esplora quindi temi di archeologia sociale, cercando nel registro archeologico gli indizi materiali del mutamento nelle relazioni tra sessi, tra individui di una stessa comunità e tra comunità umane di diversa origine geografica e/o culturale. Durante le lezioni tratteremo aspetti legati all’origine della disuguaglianza e dello Stato a partire da esempi e casti studio dalla Preistoria e Protostoria europea.
The conducted work is a seminar type, carried out on particular aspects of European Prehistory, with a focus on important topics, such as Palaeolithic symbolism, Mesolithic in the Aegean area, Neolithization in SE Europe, the Linear Pottery phenomenon, the Copper age, raw material uses and production, the raw material supply for lithic, raw material trade network. The ideology in prehistoric society is a relevant topic both in the symbolic manifestations and funerary sphere.
The history, the protagonists of the research and the identity of this discipline will
also be briefly treated, together with the different national narratives that
inevitably contribute to enrich the interpretative framework and the visions of the
cultural development of the oldest history of Europe and of the very idea of prehistory
on the European continent.

L'esame consiste in una prova orale, mediante un colloquio durante il quale lo studente dovrà fornire risposte esaustive alle domande che gli saranno poste, relativamente agli argomenti trattati durante il corso.
Per superare positivamente la prova lo studente, rispondendo alle domande, deve dimostrare la conoscenza dei contenuti, esponendoli in forma chiara, logica e con adeguata terminologia, dimostrando l'acquisizione delle conoscenze con capacità critica e di argomentazione e utilizzando appropriatamente le fonti archeologiche a disposizione.
The exam consists of an oral test, through an interview during which the student will
have to provide exhaustive answers to the questions that will be asked, regarding the
topics covered during the course. To successfully pass the test, the student, by answering the questions, must demonstrate
the knowledge of the contents, exposing them in a clear, logical and with adequate
terminology, demonstrating the acquisition of knowledge with critical and
argumentative ability and appropriately using the archaeological sources available
