The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of Geometrical and Physical Optics; propagation of electromagnetic waves in vacuum, dielectrics and plasmas; quantum aspects of electromagnetic radiation; LASER principles; laser-matter interaction at high-intensities; non-linear optics;applications to Inertial Confinement Fusion, laser-plasma acceleration, high brightness X-ray sources
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course topics and be able to use such knowledges to solve specific problems.
Methods:
- Final oral exam
Delivery: face to face
Learning activities:
- attending lectures
- participation in seminar
- individual study
- Laboratory work
- Other
Attendance: Mandatory
Teaching methods:

I suggest O. Svelto, Principles of Lasers, 4th edition, Plenum Press, New York, 1998. However the student is free to use the books he like devoted to the topics of the course. Usually he shows me the book and I say if it is adequate or not.
For the most motivated students in my lab and in the labs I am collaborating.
