Il corso mira a fornire agli studenti una conoscenza approfondita di come alcuni dei principali fondamenti teorici del management dell’innovazione si traducono nelle pratiche manageriali che caratterizzano l'ambiente competitivo odierno. Particolare enfasi sarà posta sul ruolo delle tecnologie abilitanti e sulle pratiche di gestione delle imprese innovative. Il corso introdurrà inoltre gli studenti alle pratiche imprenditoriali nella scienza dell'informazione (come sviluppare e portare sul mercato nuovi prodotti e servizi basati su sistemi embedded e soluzioni high-tech).
Il corso comprenderà lezioni teoriche e pratiche svolte in lingua inglese e sarà composto due sezioni principali:
Parte I (L'impresa innovativa: concetti teorici e implicazioni di gestione)
Parte II (Pratiche di gestione e tecnologie abilitanti)
Al termine del corso gli studenti avranno appreso nozioni su:
- Gestione di R&S, proprietà intellettuale e innovazione tecnologica
- La natura e l’evoluzione dei paradigmi tecnologici, in particolare quelli legati alla scienza dell’informazione
- Le dinamiche tecnologiche e di mercato dell'innovazione
- La relazione tra innovazione e crescita aziendale
- La natura e le dinamiche competitive delle piattaforme digitali
- La valutazione delle tecnologie e le strategie di mercato per le tecnologie embedded
- Le pratiche manageriali legate all’evoluzione dell’intelligenza artificiale, di Industria 4.0 e delle tecnologie abilitanti
The course aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of how the main theoretical foundations of innovation management translate into the management practices that characterise today's competitive environment. Emphasis will be placed on the role of enabling technologies and management practices in technology-based and innovative enterprises. The course will also introduce students to entrepreneurial practices in information science (how to develop and bring to market new products and services based on embedded systems and high-tech solutions).
The course will be delivered in English language and will include theoretical and practical lectures.
It will consist of two main sections:
Part I (The innovative enterprise: theoretical concepts and management implications)
Part II (Management practices and enabling technologies)
At the end of the course students will have learned about the following topics:
- R&D management, intellectual property and technological innovation
- The nature and evolution of technological paradigms
- The technological and market dynamics of innovation
- The relationship between innovation and business growth
- The nature and competitive dynamics of digital platforms
- Technology assessment and market strategies for embedded technologies
- The managerial practices related to the evolution of artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0 and enabling technologies
L’esame sarà composto da una prova scritta seguita da una prova orale, che includerà la discussione di un project work svolto in gruppo.
La prova scritta coprirà i contenuti della Parte 1, il project work riguarderà i contenuti della Parte 2. Entrambe le prove verranno svolte in lingua inglese.
I 6 CFU dovranno essere conseguiti attraverso lo svolgimento della prova scritta e della prova orale che, insieme, compongono la prova di esame. Questi dovranno essere verbalizzati entro un anno solare dal superamento della prova scritta. Lo svolgimento della sola prova scritta non costituisce prova di esame. Il mancato superamento della prova orale richiederà il sostenimento di una nuova prova scritta.
The examination will consist of a written test followed by an oral test, which will include the discussion of a project work carried out in a group.
The written test will cover the contents of Part 1, the project work will cover the contents of Part 2. Both tests will be conducted in English.
The 6 CFU are to be achieved through the written and oral examination, which together make up the examination. These must be recorded within one calendar year of passing the written test. The written test alone does not constitute an examination. Failure to pass the oral test will require a new written test to be taken.
Al termine del corso gli studenti saranno in grado di:
- Conoscere e valutare le dinamiche di ricerca, sviluppo adozione e diffusione delle tecnologie, con particolare riferimento alle tecnologie abilitanti
- Saper leggere e interpretare la letteratura manageriale sul tema della gestione dell’innovazione tecnologica
- Conoscere ed interpretare le principali pratiche manageriali nel contesto competitivo odierno
- Approfondire la propria conoscenza delle dinamiche competitive delle piattaforme digitali, delle pratiche manageriali legate all’evoluzione dell’intelligenza artificiale, di Industria 4.0 in chiave imprenditoriale.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
- Understand and evaluate the dynamics of research, development adoption and diffusion of technologies, with particular reference to enabling technologies
- Read and interpret the managerial literature on the management of technological innovation
- Understand and evaluate the main managerial practices in today's competitive environment
- Deepen one's knowledge of the competitive dynamics of digital platforms, of managerial practices related to the evolution of artificial intelligence, of Industry 4.0 from an entrepreneurial perspective.
Il corso presenterà i fondamenti teorici dei vari temi e integrerà tali nozioni con studi di caso, lettura e discussione di articoli ed esempi di pratiche manageriali contemporanee.
Nel corso di ogni modulo si favorirà l'apprendimento attivo e l'interazione con gli studenti, facendo uso - oltre al tradizionale metodo di insegnamento frontale - di studi di caso, lavori di gruppo e simulazioni.
The course will introduce students to the theoretical foundations of the various topics and will supplement these notions with case studies, reading and discussion of articles and examples of contemporary management practice.
During each module, active learning and interaction with students will be encouraged, using case studies, group work and simulations in addition to the traditional face-to-face teaching method.
Il lavoro di gruppo e l’interazione in aula permetteranno agli studenti di applicare le conoscenze apprese nei moduli a casi concreti e ad imparare a discutere ed interpretare in chiave critica le principali strategie e pratiche manageriali legate alla gestione dell’innovazione tecnologica.
La partecipazione attiva alle lezioni è fortemente incoraggiata.
Group work and classroom interaction will allow students to apply the knowledge learned in the modules to concrete cases and to learn to critically discuss and interpret the main managerial strategies and practices related to the management of technological innovation.
Active participation of students in lectures is strongly encouraged.
La verifica finale terrà conto delle modalità di definizione delle responsabilità e della organizzazione e gestione dei lavori di gruppo.
The final assessment will take into account how responsibilities are defined and how group work is organised and managed.
E' fortemente consigliata una conoscenza della lingua inglese sufficiente per la comprensione di un testo scritto, per la scrittura del project work e per l'interazione in aula e in sede di esame.
Sufficient knowledge of English is strongly recommended for understanding a written text, writing the project work and interacting in the classroom and in the exam.

La prova di esame per i non frequentanti è la medesima dei frequentanti.
The examination for non-attending students is the same as for attending students.
L’esame sarà composto da una prova scritta seguita da una prova orale, che includerà la discussione di un project work. Entrambe le prove verranno svolte in lingua inglese
La prova scritta coprirà i contenuti della Parte 1, il project work riguarderà i contenuti della Parte 2.
I 6 CFU dovranno essere conseguiti attraverso lo svolgimento della prova scritta e della prova orale che, insieme, compongono la prova di esame. Questi dovranno essere verbalizzati entro un anno solare dal superamento della prova scritta. Lo svolgimento della sola prova scritta non costituisce prova di esame. Il mancato superamento della prova orale richiederà il sostenimento di una nuova prova scritta.
La tempistica di svolgimento della prova scritta sarà comunicata dai docenti dopo l’appello e prima dell’inizio della prova stessa, e terrà conto del numero di quesiti e del loro grado di difficoltà. Il numero di quesiti potrà variare tra 5 e 8 e riguarderà i contenuti della Parte I del corso: The innovative firm: theoretical concepts and management implications.
La soglia di superamento della prova scritta è un punteggio pari a 18.
Il superamento della prova scritta consentirà l’accesso alla prova orale che includerà la discussione di un project work, elaborato in gruppo da 2 studenti avente ad oggetto un tema ed un caso di studio proposto dagli studenti e concordato con i docenti. Nel project work si dovranno sviluppare i contenuti della Parte II del corso: Management practices and enabling technologies.
La prova orale dovrà essere sostenuta entro un anno dal superamento della prova scritta.
Il project work dovrà essere consegnato e discusso in corrispondenza dell’appello di esame al quale ciascuno studente intende partecipare. Ad ogni appello, ciascun gruppo avrà a disposizione 20 minuti per presentare i risultati del lavoro a cui seguiranno domande dei docenti rivolte ai singoli studenti e volte all’ eventuale approfondimento dei contenuti della prova scritta (Parte I del Corso) ed alla discussione del project work (Parte II del Corso)
Non sarà possibile accedere alla prova orale se non si sarà superata la prova scritta.

The timetable for the written test will be communicated by the teachers after the roll call and before the start of the test itself, and will take into account the number of questions and their level of difficulty. The number of questions may vary between 5 and 8 and will cover the contents of Part I of the course: The innovative firm: theoretical concepts and management implications.
The pass mark for the written test is 18.
Passing the written test will allow access to the oral test, which will include the discussion of a project work, prepared in groups of 2 students, on a theme and a case study proposed by the students and agreed with the teachers. The project work must develop the contents of Part II of the course: Management practices and enabling technologies.
The oral test must be taken within one year of passing the written test.
The project work must be submitted and discussed at the time of the exam in which each student intends to participate. At each exam, each group will have 20 minutes to present the results of their work, followed by questions from the lecturers to the individual students aimed at deepening the contents of the written test (Part I of the Course) and at discussing the project work (Part II of the Course).
It will not be possible to take part in the oral examination if the written examination has not been passed.
