Conoscenze

Knowledge

The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to develop classical industrial activities such as: using problem solving tools, in the theoretical framework of problem solving approach; performing of internal and external audit to verify conformance of quality systems to the standard UNI EN ISO 9001:2008; defining corrective. Some tools to support creativity will also be introduced.

Prova orale finale

Assessment criteria of knowledge

During the oral exam the student must be able to face problems by using the correct tools and methods of problem solving. The student must use terms and language in a correct way, and must demonstrate the acquisition of a coherent set of knowledge.

Methods:

  • Final oral exam

Skills

The aim of the course is to develop the so-called "soft skills" and in particular the problem solving skills, through the use of standard tools of industrial production activity.

Teaching methods

Delivery: face to face

Attendance: Advised

  • Seminar
  • Task-based learning/problem-based learning/inquiry-based learning

Syllabus

The course is tailored on the students with a previous competence on Quality Management issues. In particular the knowledge of the UNI EN ISO 9001:2008 standards and its general principia is requested. The course includes three main sections: - 1 ) Focusing on the classical problem solving technique, by in-depth analysis of main methodological tools (e.g. Ishikawa tools) applied to exercises developed during the lesson and as homework (without marks, only for self assessment) - 2 ) Basic elements and main tools of lean techniques in manufacturing: MUDA, 5S and others - 3 ) Audit technique: UNI EN ISO 19011 Standard discussed by analysis of the text and by role playing in classroom among different groups of students. During the course, specific seminars on related subjects developed by engineers coming from industry could be held.

Assessment methods

dThe final will be an oral exam only. Typically, the students will describe the application of one or more method to develop a specific problem solving path, applied to detect problems or to find their possible causes, in simple but realistic situation, briefly presented by the teacher. Other possible issues are detailed descriptions of single parts of audit procedure, or simple applications of lean tools.
