Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main characteristics of ancient Greek metrics and prosody. He or she will be able to read the principal poetic texts of ancient Greek literature from a metrical point of view and to look critically at the most interesting problems connected with metrics, such as its role in the philological reconstructions of texts, and in the interpretation of ancient performance.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. In particular he/she must be able to translate Greek texts, to interpret them from the point of view of metrics and prosody, and to place them correctly in the history of Greek literary culture.

Further information:
The evaluation will be carried out by ascertain the knowledge of the principal prosodic and metrical aspects of ancient Greek poetry on the basis of the proposed texts.

La metrica della Commedia Antica: lettura dei Cavalieri di Aristofane.

 

Syllabus
The course offers the study of the principal aspects of ancient Greek prosody and metrics. Particular attention is devoted each year to a meter or group of meters which are examined from the point of view of their use in different periods of Greek literary culture through the analysis of texts. Also taken in account are issues related to the reconstruction of texts that have metrical problems and questions connected to performative aspects.

 Lo studio della metrica della Commedia Antica si baserà su una scelta di brani dai Cavalieri di Aristofane (vv. 460-610; 942-1110); edizione di riferimento: Aristophanis Fabulae, ed. N. G. Wilson, I, Oxonii 2007. L'esametro arcaico sarà studiato sulla base di Il. V, vv. 311-430.
