Learning outcomes
Knowledge
Students are expected to acquire
the ability to make proof by induction, to solve congruences and to handle polynomials;
a solid basic knowledge of counting;
a very neat knowledge of the basic properties of groups, rings and finite field theory.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
In the written exam (2,5/3 hours) the student is required to solve 3 or 4 exercises of different difficulty. The aim is to test the knowledge of the student of the course material and of its capability ti apply it to concrete examples. During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and to give precise and neat proofs of the main results. The student is also asked to examine in detail specific instances where the theory can be applied.
Methods:
- Final oral exam
- Final written exam
- Periodic written tests
Teaching methods
Delivery: face to face
Learning activities:
