Retorica e scelta di vita nel Gorgia di Platone
La critica spesso ha considerato il problema del rapporto nel Gorgia di Platone fra il confronto di Socrate, con Gorgia, su retorica e sapere, con Polo, su politica e giustizia, con Callicle, su scelta di vita e destino dell’anima. Il seminario ha quale campo la grande architettura che governa le tre sezioni: la prospettiva inevitabile per Gorgia è matrice sia per Polo sia per Callicle di un radicale realismo che rende risibile ogni ricerca intellettuale. Con frequenza traspare il gioco, difficile da interpretare, con la tradizione poetica e al termine il mito suggerisce un paragone con la Repubblica e con il Fedone. Il gusto di Platone per la caratterizzazione dei personaggi qui giunge al culmine con Callicle, ambigua e misteriosa maschera creata per la confutazione del male.

Rhetoric and life choice in Plato’s Gorgias.
Critics have often considered the problem of the relationship in Plato’s Gorgias between Socrates’ debate with Gorgias on rhetoric and knowledge, with Polus on politics and justice, and with Callicles on life choice and destiny of the soul. This seminar will cover the great architecture which rules the three sections: Gorgias’ unavoidable perspective is the matrix for Polus’ as well as Callicles’ radical realism which makes any intellectual research ridiculous. Again and again the game with the poetic tradition is revealed, which is difficult to interpret, and the final myth suggests a comparison with the Republic and the Phaedo. Plato’s taste for the representation of the characters reaches its culmination with Callicles, the ambiguous and mysterious mask created for the confutation of the evil.
