Gli obiettivi del corso sono:
(1) assicurare la conoscenza delle maggiori tematiche, eventi e processi che caratterizzano la storia moderna europea e mondiale, tra fine XV e fine XVIII secolo
(2) fornire degli strumenti critici per la lettura storiografica delle vicende trattate.
The objectives of the course are:
(1) to ensure knowledge of the major themes, events and processes that characterize early modern European and World history, between the end of the fifteenth and the end of the eighteenth centuries
(2) provide critical tools for the historiographical reading of the events
L’esame prevede una prova orale, dedicata alla verifica dello studio degli argomenti trattati durante il corso, del manuale e delle opere monografiche in programma.
The exam includes an oral test, dedicated to verifying the study of the topics covered during the course, the manual and the monographic works in the program
Il corso si propone di offrire agli studenti e alle studentesse strumenti al fine di:
(1) acquisire una conoscenza delle principali tematiche riguardanti la storia moderna
(2) sviluppare una capacità di lettura critica degli avvenimenti e dei processi storici
The course aims to offer students tools in order to:
(1) acquire an understanding of the main issues concerning early modern history
(2) develop a capacity for critical reading of historical events and processes
Gli studenti e le studentesse dovranno dimostrare di aver acquisito una conoscenza non meramente evenemenziale delle principali tematiche della storia moderna.
Inoltre, dovranno analizzare in modo critico le monografie proposte dal docente, sapendone individuare in modo critico gli snodi argomentativi.
Students will have to demonstrate that they have acquired a not merely factual knowledge of the main themes of early modern history.
Moreover, they will have to critically analyze the monographs proposed by the teacher, knowing how to critically identify the argumentative junctions.
La finalità del corso è quella di permettere agli studenti e alle studentesse di acquisire una capacità di lettura critica degli avvenimenti, dei problemi e dei processi storici utile all’analisi del presente.
The aim of the course is to allow students to acquire a capacity for critical reading of events, problems and historical processes useful for the analysis of the present.
In sede di esame orale sarà chiesto agli studenti di esporre alcuni degli argomenti trattati a lezione in modo da poter valutare la loro capacità di orientarsi entro le grandi contestualizzazioni storiche e di stabilire collegamenti e raffronti tra un contesto e l'altro.
During the oral examination, students will be asked to present some of the topics covered in class in order to be able to evaluate their ability to contextualize events and processes and to establish links and comparisons between one context and another.
Il corso è rivolto a tutti gli studenti e a tutte le studentesse, e non richiede prerequisiti particolari.
The course is aimed at all students, and does not require any particular prerequisites.
Il corso si propone di offrire concetti e metodi fondamentali della storiografia in ambito modernistico. Saranno affrontati i principali eventi e le principali problematiche relative alla storia del mondo moderno, tra fine XV e fine XVIII secolo.
Un particolare approfondimento sarà dedicato alla storia degli Imperi e del Mondo Atlantico.
The course aims to offer fundamental concepts and methods of historiography in the early modern history field. The main events and the main problems relating to the history of the early modern world will be discussed, between the end of the 15th and the end of the 18th century.
A special focus will be dedicated to the history of the Empires and the Atlantic World.

- Carlo Capra, Storia moderna (1492-1848), Mondadori Education, 2016 (limitatamente ai capp. 1-26)
Una monografia a scelta tra le seguenti:
- Elliott J.H., Imperi dell'Atlantico. America britannica e America spagnola, 1492-1830, Einaudi, 2010 (esclusa la parte terza)
- Pagden A., Signori del mondo. Ideologie dell'impero in Spagna, Gran Bretagna e Francia 1500-1800, il Mulino, 2008
Una monografia a scelta tra le seguenti:
- Ames G.J., L’età delle scoperte geografiche. 1500-1700, il Mulino, 2011
- Parker Ch.H., Relazioni globali nell'età moderna. 1400-1800, il Mulino, 2002
In addition to the topics covered during the lessons, a study of an early modern history manual and two monographs is required

- Elliott J.H., Empires of the Atlantic World: Britain and Spain in America, 1492-1830 (2006) (excluding the third part)
- Pagden A., Lords of All the World: Ideologies of Empire in Spain, Britain and France C.1500-C. 1800 (1995)
A monograph to be chosen from the following:
- Ames G.J., The Globe Encompassed: The Age Of European Discovery, 1500-1700 (2008)
- Parker Ch.H., Global Interactions in the Early Modern Age, 1400-1800 (2010)
Gli studenti e le studentesse non frequentanti dovranno integrare il programma leggendo i seguenti libri:

- L. Di Fiore, M. Meriggi, World history. Le nuove rotte della storia, Roma-Bari, Laterza, 2011
Non-attending students and students will have to integrate the program reading also:

- L. Di Fiore, M. Meriggi, World history. Le nuove rotte della storia, Roma-Bari, Laterza, 2011
L'esame si articola in una prova orale:
(a) Per gli studenti e le studentesse frequentanti verterà sulla parte generale (manuale, lezioni), e sulle monografie a scelta della parte monografica
(b) Per tutti gli altri e le altre verterà sulla parte generale (manuale, volumi per i non frequentanti) e sulle monografie a scelta della parte monografica
Per ogni ulteriore chiarimento il docente è disponibile a ricevere gli studenti e le studentesse in videoconferenza (su appuntamento, da concordarsi via email)
