Gli obiettivi del corso sono:
(1) assicurare la conoscenza delle maggiori tematiche, eventi e processi che caratterizzano la storia della prima età moderna.
(2) fornire degli strumenti critici per la lettura storiografica delle vicende trattate.
The objectives of the course are:
(1) to ensure knowledge of the major themes, events and processes that characterize early modern history.
(2) provide critical tools for the historiographical reading of the events.
La verifica delle conoscenze avverrà in sede d'esame.
The assessment of knowledge will take place during the exam.
Il corso si propone di offrire agli studenti e alle studentesse strumenti al fine di:
(1) acquisire una conoscenza delle principali tematiche riguardanti la storia della prima età moderna.
(2) sviluppare una capacità di lettura critica degli avvenimenti e dei processi storici.
The course aims to offer students tools in order to:
(1) acquire an understanding of the main issues concerning early modern history.
(2) develop a capacity for critical reading of historical events and processes.
Gli studenti e le studentesse dovranno dimostrare di aver acquisito una conoscenza non meramente evenemenziale delle principali tematiche della storia della prima età moderna.
Inoltre, dovranno analizzare in modo critico le monografie proposte dal docente, sapendone individuare gli snodi argomentativi.
Students will have to demonstrate that they have acquired a not merely factual knowledge of the main themes of early modern history.
Moreover, they will have to critically analyze the monographs proposed by the teacher, knowing how to identify their key arguments.
La finalità del corso è quella di permettere agli studenti e alle studentesse di acquisire una capacità di lettura critica degli avvenimenti, dei problemi e dei processi storici utile all’analisi del presente.
The aim of the course is to allow students to acquire a capacity for critical reading of events, problems and historical processes useful for the analysis of the present.
Durante le lezioni, sarà valutata la partecipazione attiva degli studenti e delle studentesse.
During the lessons, the active participation of students will be evaluated.
Il corso è rivolto a tutti gli studenti e a tutte le studentesse, e non richiede prerequisiti particolari.
The course is aimed at all students, and does not require any particular prerequisites.
Non è necessario, ma sarebbe consigliabile, aver seguito il corso di storia medievale.
it is not necessary, but it would be advisable, to have followed the medieval history course.
Il corso costituisce un prerequisito consigliabile per sostenere esami magistrali di storia moderna.
The course is an advisable prerequisite for taking master's exams in modern history.
Il corso sarà svolto principalmente mediante lezioni frontali, nelle quali verranno utilizzate delle slides che saranno poi fornite agli studenti e alle studentesse.
The course will be carried out mainly through lectures, in which slides will be used which will then be provided to students.

- Demografia, agricoltura e popolazione tra medioevo e antico regime
- Storia del Clima
- La malattie nella storia del mondo
- La riconfigurazione economica del mondo moderno: Capitalismo, Rivoluzione industriale, Grande Divergenza
- Relazioni globali tra medioevo e prima età moderna
- Conquista: violenza e legittimazione
- La storia degli imperi nella prima età moderna
The course will cover the following topics
- The concept of Modern/Modernity and its periodization
- Demographics, agriculture and population between the Middle Ages and the ancient regime
- History of the Climate
- The plagues in world history
- The economic reconfiguration of the modern world: Capitalism, the Industrial Revolution, the Great Divergence
- Global relations between the Middle Ages and the early modern age
- Conquest: violence and legitimacy
- History ot the early modern empires
Per la parte generale, gli studenti e le studentesse FREQUENTANTI, oltre agli appunti del corso, dovranno studiare il seguente testo:

L’esame prevede una prova orale, dedicata alla verifica dello studio degli argomenti trattati durante il corso e delle opere monografiche in programma.
The exam includes an oral test, dedicated to verifying the study of the topics covered during the course and the monographic works in the program.
