Al termine del corso, se avrà seguito la maggior parte delle lezioni e avrà preso parte attivamente alle discussioni, lo studente:

- will possess the ability to establish comparisons with the historical and social context of the reference countries
- will succeed in interpreting the political, cultural and metaphorical figures that inform the peculiar literary declinations in the world of Portuguese language
- will be able to express themselves in Portuguese in the field of literary criticism

Since this is a seminar course, methods can be tested by proposing to the students
- to carry out application activities of the given concepts
- to formulate hypotheses
- to carry out brief research on certain texts, authors, specific themes
- to read and comment on the texts in question
- to argue in Portuguese using the appropriate register
Gli studenti dovranno possedere competenza linguistica (attiva e passiva) in portoghese tale da affrontare lezioni, lettura dei testi e discussioni in lingua (per lo meno B2).
Il corso si rivolge agli studenti di I e II anno delle Lauree Magistrali in Lingue, Letterature e Filologie Euroamericane e di Linguistica e Traduzione, ovvero a coloro che hanno già un bagaglio culturale (linguistico e letterario) nell'ambito della Lusitanistica (almeno 2 annualità di Lingua portoghese e di Letteratura portoghese sostenute nel Triennio).
Gli studenti che non possiedano sufficiente competenza linguistica (Italianistica), potranno seguire il corso di Letteratura della laurea triennale in Lingue e Letterature Straniere, oppure concordare con la docente un programma alternativo.
Students will have to have a linguistic competence (active and passive) in Portuguese to face lessons, read texts and hold discussions in Portuguese (B1+/ B2).
The course is addressed to the third year studentis of the Degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures, and to first and second year students of the Master's Degrees in Euro-American Languages, Literatures and Philology and Linguistics and Translation, or to those who already have a cultural background (linguistic and literary) in the context of Portuguese studies (at least 2 Annual courses of Portuguese Language and Portuguese Literature in the Triennium).
The course is also addressed to the International Programme in Humanities students
Students who do not have sufficient linguistic competence (Master in Italian Studies) will be able to follow the three-year degree course in Foreign Languages and Literatures, or ask the Professor for an alternative programme.

The course

Modalità dell’epica nel mondo di lingua portoghese.
Destino, identità, missione. Esistono delle costanti nella applicazione e riformulazione dei principi del modo epico nelle letterature di lingua portoghese? Partendo dai Lusíadas di Luís de Camões (1572), che si presenta come intertesto ineludibile nelle letterature di lingua portoghese, il corso intende seguire il filo che collega i principali testi epici, tra Portogallo, Brasile e Africa, dal XVI secolo al Novecento: la Prosopopeia di Bento Teixeira (1601), il Caramuru di Santa Rita Durão (1781), la Histoire de Portugal par coeur di Almada Negreiros (1919), Mensagem di Fernando Pessoa (1935), As Quibíricas di “Fr. Grabato Dias” (1972), Pão e fonema di Corsino Fortes (1974), e il Primeiro e segundo livro de Notcha di Timóteo Tio Tiofe (João Manuel Varela) (2001). Si affronteranno i testi sia dal punto di vista del macrosistema letterario di lingua portoghese, sia nei loro aspetti testuali ed ecdotici principali.
Epic mode in the Portuguese-speaking world.
Destiny, identity, mission. Are there any constants in the application and reformulation of the principles of the epic mode in Portuguese-language literatures? Starting from the Lusíadas of Luís de Camões (1572), which presents itself as an unavoidable intertext in Portuguese-language literatures, the course intends to follow the thread that connects the main epic texts, between Portugal, Brazil and Africa, from the sixteenth century to the twentieth century: the Prosopopeia by Bento Teixeira (1601), the Caramuru of Santa Rita Durão (1781), the Histoire de Portugal par coeur by Almada Negreiros (1919), Mensagem by Fernando Pessoa (1935), As Quibíricas by “Fr. Grabato Dias ”(1972), Pão and phoneme by Corsino Fortes (1974), and the Primeiro and segundo livro de Notcha by Timóteo Tio Tiofe (João Manuel Varela) (2001). The texts will be addressed both from the point of view of the Portuguese language literary macrosystem, and in their main textual and ecological aspects.

For non-attending the programme is the same as for attending students. Non-attending students will be required to consolidate their preparation by extending the study to in-depth bibliography that will be uploaded onto Moodle.

Lo studente dovrà redigere un breve elaborato critico in lingua portoghese (8-10 pagine, completo di bibliografia), sviluppando un tema concordato con la docente. L'elaborato dovrà essere consegnato per mail, in formato pdf, una settimana prima della data prevista per l'orale.
La prova orale, in lingua portoghese, consisterà nella discussione dell'elaborato e dei temi affrontati durante il corso.
Si ricorda che gli studenti si dovranno iscrivere alla prova orale sul Sistema d'Ateneo (le iscrizioni terminano 5 giorni prima della data della prova: non saranno accettati studenti non iscritti).
The student will have to write a short critical essay in Portuguese (8-10 pages, with bibliography), developing a theme agreed with the professor. The report must be delivered by e-mail, in pdf format, one week before the date scheduled for the oral exam.
The oral exam, in Portuguese, will consist in the discussion of the elaborate and the themes dealt with during the course.
Please note that students must register for the Oral exam on the University System (enrolment ends 5 days before the date of the exam: non-registered students will not be accepted).
