Al termine del corso lo studente acquisirà la conoscenza della letteratura greca nella sua evoluzione storica dalle origini al tardo impero e nella sua molteplicità dei generi, fra poesia e prosa, con attenzione al ruolo di ogni autore nel dibattito politico e culturale del tempo.
By the end of the course the student will acquire the knowledge of Greek literature in its historical evolution from its origins to the late Empire and in its multiplicity of genres, between poetry and prose, with attention to the role of each author in the political and cultural debate of the time.

For the verification of knowledge, dialogues will be possible during the lessons.
Al termine del corso lo studente saprà interpretare un testo di letteratura greca, evidenziandone le caratteristiche peculiari per il contenuto e per la forma, registrandone la memoria che offre nel rapporto con il modello e le fratture dell’orizzonte di attesa.
By the end of the course the student will be able to interpret a text of Greek literature, highlighting its peculiar characteristics in terms of content and form, recording the memory it offers in the relationship with the model and the fractures of the waiting horizon.

Storiografia e letteratura nel I libro di Tucidide
Il corso cercherà di osservare il rapporto fra la storiografia e la produzione poetica nel testo che per eccellenza lo indica, nel I libro di Tucidide che, se muove dall’uso di Omero quale fonte problematica per la ricostruzione del passato più lontano, al termine offre la riflessione di Pericle sul conflitto di Sparta e di Atene. Un rapporto vissuto da Tucidide nel segno dell’attrito polare o dell’emancipazione, ma non privo di osmosi e di contaminazione, con la storiografia che recepisce forme decisive per la produzione poetica, fra tutte la mimesis gestita nel versatile agire di personaggi sulla scena, e con la produzione poetica legata con vigore al codice del verosimile, se non del reale. Non sarà certo eluso il giudizio su Tucidide di figure apicali nel mondo antico, Dionigi o Marcellino, e il corso affronterà la moderna “questione”, con Ullrich, Schwartz, Patzer, Finley. Ma occuperà spazio l’esame dell’Archeologia, la sezione che dimostra la grandezza del conflitto di Sparta e di Atene con la ricostruzione del dominio esercitato in area greca dalle potenze del mare: qui emergono fondamentali nuclei di metodo che guidano l’opera intera, il gioco fra il tekmerion e l’eikos, con al culmine il saphes, e che aprono il campo ai capitoli programmatici e al severo impegno sulle cause, aitia e prophasis. Con abile tecnica narrativa, la rievocazione del conflitto di Sparta e di Atene parte, ma poi si ferma e arretra con la Pentecontaetia, la sezione sulle vicende in area greca dopo Salamina, dopo la fine del conflitto con la Persia.

Historiography and literature in the first book of Thucydides
The course will try to observe the relationship between historiography and poetic production in the text that par excellence indicates it, in the first book of Thucydides which, if it starts from the use of Homer as the problematic source for the reconstruction of the more distant past, at the end offers Pericles' reflection on the conflict between Sparta and Athens. Mostly the relationship eis xperienced by Thucydides in the sign of polar friction or emancipation, but not without osmosis and contamination, with historiography which incorporates decisive forms for poetic production, above all the mimesis managed in the versatile action of characters on the scene, and the poetic production vigorously linked to the code of the probable, if not of the real. The judgment on Thucydides of top figures in the ancient world, Dionysius or Marcellinus, will certainly not be evaded, and the course will address the modern "question", with Ullrich, Schwartz, Patzer, Finley. But space will be occupied by the examination of Archaeology, the section that demonstrates the magnitude of the conflict between Sparta and Athens with the reconstruction of the progressive domination exercised in the Greek area by the powers of the sea: here emerge fundamental methodological nucleuses that guide the entire work, the game between the tekmerion and the eikos, with the saphes at its peak, and that open the field to the programmatic chapters and to the severe commitment on the causes, aitia and prophasis. With skilful narrative technique, the re-enactment of the conflict between Sparta and Athens starts, but then stops and moves back with the Pentecontaetia, the section on the events in the Greek area after Salamis, after the end of the conflict with Persia.

L'esame consisterà in un dialogo con il docente durante il quale il candidato leggerà, tradurrà e analizzerà passi discussi durante il corso e testi proposti nel programma. Sarà richiesta la conoscenza della letteratura greca.
The exam will consist of a dialogue with the teacher during which the candidate will read, translate and analyze passages discussed during the course and texts proposed in the program. Knowledge of Greek literature will be required.
