Al termine del corso:
Lo studente avrà acquisito competenza in fonologia e fonetica, morfologia, lessico e sintassi della Lingua Inglese. Il livello di competenza di lingua richiesto è B1+.
Descrittori del Livello B1+ (così come nel QCER): Comprendere i punti chiave di argomenti familiari che riguardano la scuola, il tempo libero, ambito di specializzazione. Muoversi con disinvoltura in situazioni che possono verificarsi mentre si viaggia nel paese di cui parla la lingua. Produrre un testo semplice (scritto e orale) relativo ad argomenti che siano familiari o di interesse personale. Esprimere esperienze ed avvenimenti, sogni, speranze e ambizioni e di spiegare brevemente le ragioni delle proprie opinioni e progetti.
Lo studente dovrà acquisire conoscenze di base di fonetica e fonologia, saper leggere i caratteri IPA (alfabeto fonetico internazionale) usati in inglese, conoscere le principali caratteristiche della morfologia, del lessico e della sintassi della lingua inglese, e avere una conoscenza di base delle tappe evolutive della lingua inglese, dall’antico inglese all’inglese moderno. In conformità con gli obiettivi del progetto di eccellenza CECIL, gli studenti acquisiranno competenze grammaticali e lessicali necessarie alla comprensione e produzione di testi.
At the end of the course:
The student will have acquired competence in phonology and phonetics, morphology and syntax of the English Language. The required level of language proficiency is B1+.
Descriptors of Level B1+ (as in CEFR): Students understand the key points of familiar topics related to school, leisure, field of specialisation. Students should be able to move with ease in situations that may occur while travelling in the country whose language is spoken, produce a simple text (written and oral) on topics that are familiar or of personal interest and express experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly explain the reasons for their opinions and plans.
Students are expected to acquire basic knowledge of phonetics and phonology, to be able to read the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) characters used in English, to know the main features of morphology, vocabulary and syntax of the English language, and to have basic knowledge of the evolutionary stages of the English language from Old English to Modern English. In accordance with the objectives of the CECIL project of excellence, students will acquire grammatical and lexical skills necessary for text comprehension and production.

Lo studente saprà: Comprendere i punti chiave di argomenti familiari, espressi in forma scritta o orale, che riguardano la scuola, il tempo libero, il proprio ambito di specializzazione, come nel QCER per il livello B1+. Muoversi con disinvoltura in situazioni che possono verificarsi mentre si viaggia nel Paese di cui parla la lingua, come nel QCER per il livello B1+. Produrre un testo semplice (scritto e orale) relativo ad argomenti che siano familiari o di interesse personale, come nel QCER per il livello B1+. Esprimere esperienze ed avvenimenti, sogni, speranze e ambizioni e di spiegare brevemente le ragioni delle sue opinioni e dei suoi progetti, come nel QCER per il livello B1+.
Lo studente saprà leggere in trascrizione fonetica (caratteri IPA dell'Inglese) e fare lo spelling di parole regolari. Saprà distinguere tra fonetica e fonologia, morfologia flessiva e derivativa e identificare i principali processi fonologici e morfologici della lingua inglese e applicarli e compararli con quelli in altre lingue. Inoltre, arricchirà la propria competenza lessicale, che potrà utilizzare per fare processi inferenziali utili alla comprensione testuale e quella sintattica per redigere testi in lingua inglese. Inoltre, la breve panoramica delle caratteristiche principali della lingua inglese, dall’antico inglese all’inglese moderno, permetterà allo studente di verificare i processi fonologici, morfologici e sintattici in atto nel passaggio da una lingua prevalentemente flessiva a una lingua prevalentemente sintetica.
The student will be able to: Understand the key points of familiar topics, expressed in written or oral form, that relate to school, leisure, one's field of specialization, as in the CEFR for B1+ level. Move with ease in situations that may occur while traveling in the country whose language is spoken, as in the CEFR for level B1+. Produce simple text (written and oral) related to topics that are familiar or of personal interest, as in the CEFR for the B1+ level. Express experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and to briefly explain the reasons for his or her opinions and plans, as in the CEFR for B1+ level.
The student will know how to read in phonetic transcription (IPA characters of English) and spell regular words. He will know how to distinguish between phonetics and phonology, inflectional and derivational morphology, and identify the main phonological and morphological processes in English and apply and compare them with those in other languages. In addition, the students will enrich their lexical competence, which they can use to make inferential processes useful for textual comprehension, and syntactic competence to write texts in English. In addition, the brief overview of the main features of the English language, from Old English to Modern English, will enable the student to check the phonological, morphological and syntactic processes at work in the transition from a predominantly inflectional to a predominantly synthetic language.
Durante il corso, saranno svolte esercitazioni e due prove in itinere, volte ad accertare l’effettivo apprendimento degli argomenti trattati.
L'esame finale consta di tre test scritti: grammatica (domande di grammatica, lessico, use of English e comprensione del testo scritto e del testo orale di livello B1+), fonologia/fonetica, e morfologia/lessico/sintassi, e un esame orale per accertare il livello della competenza B1+ (sulla pagina moodle del corso saranno pubblicati maggiori dettagli. Nelle prime settimane del corso si terrà un test di grammatica per stabilire il livello di competenza linguistica in Inglese. Lo scopo è quello di consigliare agli studenti un percorso (di recupero o di consolidamento) più adatto alle competenze iniziali.
During the course, at least written exercises and two in itinere tests will be carried out, aimed at ascertaining effective learning of the topics covered.
The final examination consists of three written tests: grammar (questions on grammar, vocabulary, use of English and comprehension of written text and oral text at B1+ level), phonology/phonetics, and morphology/vocabulary/syntax, and an oral examination to ascertain the level of B1+ competence (more details will be published on the course moodle page. In the first weeks of the course a test will be taken to ascertain the language level possessed at the start. The purpose of the test is to advise each student on the most suitable route to reach or maintain the level required by the course.
Lo studente acquisirà e/o svilupperà sensibilità verso la struttura grammaticale e il lessico della lingua inglese (B1+ level). Lo studente acquisirà e/o svilupperà fluenza nell'interazione orale e svilupperà abilità di comprensione orale (B1+ level). Lo studente acquisirà e/o svilupperà competenza in alcuni aspetti di storia della lingua inglese, della fonologia e fonetica inglese, della morfologia inglese, nozioni elementari di sintassi e competenze lessicali utili alla comprensione del testo.
The student will acquire and/or develop sensitivity to the grammatical structure and vocabulary of the English language (B1+ level). The student will acquire and/or develop fluency in oral interaction and develop listening comprehension skills (B1+ level). The student will acquire and/or develop competence in some aspects of the history of the English language, English phonology and phonetics, English morphology, elementary notions of syntax and lexical skills useful for understanding text.

Gli studenti dovranno avere già le competenze previste per il livello B1 del Quadro Comune Europeo di Riferimento per le Lingue: - Saper comprendere e usare espressioni di uso quotidiano e frasi basilari tese a soddisfare bisogni di tipo concreto. -Saper presentare sé stessi e gli altri. Comunicare in attività semplici e di abitudine che richiedono un semplice scambio di informazioni su argomenti familiari e comuni e descrivere in termini semplici aspetti della sua vita, dell'ambiente circostante. -Saper esprimere bisogni immediati. -Saper fare domande e rispondere su particolari personali come dove si abita, le persone che si conoscono e le cose che si possiedono. -Saper interagire in modo semplice.
Nozioni base di morfologia flessiva ed elementi di base di sintassi.
Students should already have the competences required for level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: -Being able to understand and use everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at satisfying needs of a concrete type; -to introduce oneself and others; to communicate simple exchange of information on familiar and common topics and describe aspects of his/her life and immediate environment using simple terms; to express immediate needs; - to ask and answer questions about personal details such as where one lives, people one knows and things one owns; -to interact in a simple way.
Basic notions of inflectional morphology and basic elements of syntax.
Le lezioni saranno frontali. Si utilizzerà la piattaforma moodle per la condivisione di materiale e per la somministrazione dei test. Si useranno social-media per favorire l'arricchimento lessicale.
Lecture-style instruction. The moodle platform will be used for sharing materials and administering tests. Social media will be used to favour lexical enrichment.

A) TEST 1: SCRITTO DI GRAMMATICA
La prova è un test a scelta multipla con esercizi di comprensione del testo orale (listening comprehension) e scritto (reading comprehension), esercizi tesi a verificare la conoscenza di lessico e grammatica (si veda il programma e i requisiti per ottenere il livello B1+ del Quadro Comune di Riferimento Europeo per le lingue).
Verrà accertato il livello di competenza del candidato che, si ricorda, dovrà corrispondere al B1+ del Quadro Comune Europeo per le Lingue. L'esito del test dà indicazione del livello di competenza (che può essere: A1/A2; B1; B1+; B2) e si intende superato se il livello raggiunto è almeno B1+.
B) TEST 2: FONETICA/FONOLOGIA dell'Inglese
Il test consta di domande a scelta multipla di argomenti di fonetica e fonologia della lingua Inglese trattati durante il corso. Il risultato è espresso con un voto in trentesimi. Il voto minimo per superare l'esame è 18/30.
C) TEST 3: MORFOLOGIA, LESSICO e SINTASSI dell'Inglese
Il test consta di domande a scelta multipla di argomenti trattati durante il corso relative a morfologia lessico e sintassi. Il risultato è espresso con un voto in trentesimi. Il voto minimo per superare l'esame è 18/30.
NOTA: Il superamento di tutti gli scritti è condizione per poter accedere all’esame orale. Lo scritto di grammatica ha validità di un anno, entro il quale devono essere sostenute tutte le prove per la registrazione del voto. Le prove scritte possono essere sostenute tutte nella stessa sessione d'esame o separatamente, a scelta dello studente.
D) ESAME ORALE
L'esame orale è volto a verificare una competenza orale produttiva almeno di livello B1+.
Il candidato deve preparare un curriculum vitae in inglese, dove annoterà dati biografici, esperienze di studio e lavorative (ad esempio: esperienza durante il periodo di alternanza scuola-lavoro, o altri lavori che può aver svolto in passato). Il curriculum vitae è un pretesto per parlare di sé (in maniera conforme a quanto richiesto dal QCER ) e dà la possibilità allo studente di prepararsi in anticipo lessico, pronuncia corretta e strutture sintattiche necessarie ad affrontare il colloquio.
La valutazione finale, in trentesimi, sarà ottenuta facendo la media aritmetica tra le due prove di fonetica e morfologia. Il test di grammatica e l’orale servono solamente per verificare il livello di competenza B1+.

A) TEST 1: GRAMMAR
The test is a multiple-choice test with oral (listening comprehension) and written (reading comprehension) text comprehension exercises, exercises designed to test knowledge of vocabulary and grammar (see the syllabus and requirements for obtaining B1+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
The candidate's level of proficiency will be ascertained, which, as a reminder, must correspond to B1+ of the Common European Framework for Languages. The result of the test gives an indication of the level of proficiency (which can be: A1/A2; B1; B1+; B2) and is considered passed if the level achieved is at least B1+.
B) TEST 2: PHONETICS/PHONOLOGY
The test consists of multiple-choice questions of phonetics and phonology topics of the English language covered in the course. The result is expressed as a grade in thirtieths. The minimum grade to pass the exam is 18/30.
C) TEST 3: MORPHOLOGY, LEXIS and SYNTAX of English
The test consists of multiple-choice questions of topics covered in the course related to morphology lexicon and syntax. The result is expressed as a grade in thirtieths. The minimum grade to pass the exam is 18/30.
NOTE: Passing all the writings is a condition for admission to the oral examination. The grammar test is valid for one year, within which time all tests must be taken for the grade to be recorded. The written tests may all be taken in the same examination session or separately, at the student's choice.
D: ORAL EXAM
The oral examination is designed to test productive oral competence at least at the B1+ level.
The candidate should prepare a curriculum vitae in English, where he/she will note biographical data, study and work experiences (for example: experience during the school-work alternation period, or other work he/she may have done in the past). The curriculum vitae is a pretext for talking about oneself (in a way that complies with the CEFR requirements ) and gives the student the opportunity to prepare in advance vocabulary, correct pronunciation, and syntactic structures necessary to face the interview.
The final grade, in thirtieths, will be obtained by making the arithmetic average between the two tests of phonetics and morphology.The grammar test and oral only serve to test the B1+ level of proficiency.

Il corso prevede il supporto di un Collaboratore Esperto Linguistico (dott.ssa LeighAnne Mazzoncini) che terrà esercitazioni di lingua inglese volte alla preparazione del test di grammatica e dell’orale di livello B1+ (30 ore). Se ne consiglia la frequenza soprattutto a coloro che non hanno il livello richiesto.
