Argomento del corso
L’Inferno dantesco e due suoi ‘lettori’: Giovanni Boccaccio e Primo Levi.
Al termine del corso gli studenti: a) si saranno formati, mediante l’analisi di alcuni canti danteschi e di sezioni di opere, rispettivamente, di Boccaccio e Levi, un’idea precisa di come nei secoli i versi danteschi abbiano esercitato un'influenza capillare e sistemica su contenuti e stili di opere altre, come, per esempio, il Decameron e Se questo è un uomo; b) avranno acquisito una metodologia didattica alla quale fare riferimento e sulle cui linee-guida orientare ed esercitare la professione di insegnanti.
Subject of the course:
Madness and mental illness: a journey through literature and jurisdiction.
At the end of the course the students: a) will have formed, through the analysis of a series of works and passages of works of Italian and foreign literature, as well as through the reading of segments of legal texts (= documentation), an idea specifies how over the centuries jurists and writers have dealt with mental illness and how, over time, mental illness has assumed different connotations, from the purely literary one (connected to the amorous symptomatology) to the clinical one (related to symptoms and therapeutic interventions ); b) will have acquired a teaching methodology to which to refer and on whose guidelines to orient and practice the profession of teachers.
Le conoscenze saranno verificate durante l'esame orale. Ma durante il corso gli studenti saranno impegnati in seminari settimanali nel corso dei quali ciascuno di loro dovrà presentare in forma di ‘lezione’ una relazione orale su un tema attinente all’argomento del corso.
I seminari saranno calendarizzati e assegnati nelle prime settimane di lezione. Il seminario è obbligatorio: nel senso che ogni studente dovrà tenere la sua ‘lezione’ davanti alla docente e davanti all’aula tutta e dovrà farlo entro la fine delle lezioni (del primo semestre). Quella di tenere la lezione è condizione necessaria per poter sostenere l’esame.
The knowledge check will be carried out during the oral exam.
The student will be asked to develop some topics among those covered during the lessons and among those contained in the essays and texts in the program.
Gli studenti svilupperanno non solo la capacità di leggere criticamente i testi letterari e di collocarli nel loro contesto storico-culturale, ma anche quella di esporre e di restituire nozioni e contenuti in modo che essi risultino chiari ed esaustivi a un pubblico di discenti e, di conseguenza, la competenza specifica di saper proporre materiali e contenuti all’interno dei percorsi scolastici.
Students will develop not only the ability to critically read literary texts, to place them in their historical-cultural context and to relate them to the provisions of the law and to the responses of society to the issues that the topic of mental illness has always raised, but also to adequately propose materials and contents within the school curricula.
La verifica delle capacità sarà fatta durante i Seminari su presentazione di una relazione e in sede di esame attraverso domande che mirino ad accertare quanto del percorso didattico compiuto sia stato recepito e assimilato.
The assessment of skills will be done during the exam through questions that aim to ascertain how much of the didactic path has been received and assimilated.
La lettura e l'interpretazione dei testi letterari che saranno condotte e fornite durante il corso daranno agli studenti l'opportunità di acquisire metodologie di analisi, nonché strumenti e competenze da trasmettere nell'ambito dell'insegnamento nelle scuole.
The reading and interpretation of the literary texts that will be conducted and provided during the course will give students the opportunity to acquire analysis methodologies, as well as tools and skills to be transmitted in the context of teaching in schools.
Durante le lezioni frontali la docente inviterà la classe a formulare domande e a discutere sugli argomenti affrontati.
During the lectures, the teacher will invite the class to ask questions and discuss the topics addressed.

Le lezioni saranno frontali e la docente si avvarrà di tutti i media digitali disponibili. La pagina web (piattaforma Moodle) del corso è il canale privilegiato di comunicazione tra docente e studenti (il link è indicato in uno dei campi qui sotto): lì saranno pubblicati tutte le dispense, tutti i testi integrativi, i saggi della Bibliografia indicati come letture obbligatorie nelle dispense; lì saranno dati in tempo reale avvisi relativi ai tempi e ai modi della didattica; lì saranno date le comunicazioni che riguardano il programma e le eventuali variazioni a esso.
Le lezioni saranno svolte, ove opportuno, con l'ausilio di diapositive, filmati, siti web. La lettura e l'analisi dei testi si alterneranno a lezioni di carattere espositivo: sono inoltre previste lezioni tenute da studiosi esperti su temi specifici. Il materiale didattico utilizzato, al di fuori dei testi indicati nel programma, sarà messo a disposizione degli studenti attraverso la piattaforma Moodle sulla pagina web del corso.
The lessons will be frontal and the teacher will make use of all the digital media available. The course web page is the privileged channel of communication between teacher and students: all the handouts, all the supplementary texts, all the essays in the Bibliography are published there; there will be given in real time notices relating to the times and methods of teaching; communications regarding the program and any changes to it will be given there.
The lessons will be carried out, when appropriate, with the help of slides, films, websites. The reading and analysis of texts will alternate with lessons of an expositive nature and seminars are planned by expert scholars on specific topics. The teaching material used, outside of the texts indicated in the programme, will be made available to students through the platform Moodle.
L’argomento del corso, L’Inferno dantesco e due suoi ‘lettori’: Giovanni Boccaccio e Primo Levi, per essere trattato, implica e richiede, da parte delle studentesse / degli studenti, la lettura dei testi letterari che la docente via via indicherà a lezione.
Costituiscono parte integrante del programma d'esame:
- tutti i testi che sono indicati nella sezione Testi d'esame;
- tutti i materiali indicati nella sezione Bibliografia e materiale didattico.
Testi d'esame
- Dante, Inferno: all'interno delle dispense disponibili sulla pagina web del corso sono specificati tutti i passi danteschi che devono considerarsi 'testi d'esame' (in ogni caso si consiglia di procurarsi una edizione integrale della Commedia).
- Giovanni Boccaccio: durante il corso saranno lette alcune novelle del Decameron e alcuni passi di altre opere boccacciane: all'interno delle dispense disponibili sulla pagina web del corso sono specificati tutti i passi boccacciani che devono considerarsi 'testi d'esame' In ogni caso, si suggerisce di procurarsi un’edizione integrale del Decameron.
- Primo Levi, Se questo è un uomo [lettura integrale - edizione consigliata: quella curata da Alberto Cavaglion (Torino, Einaudi)].
- Primo Levi, I sommersi e i salvati, capitolo II, La zona grigia.
- Altre pagine di Primo Levi (racconti, poesie, etc.): tutto questo materiale si trova pubblicato sulla pagina web del corso e specificamente indicato come lettura obbligatoria nelle dispense.
The topic of the course, Madness and mental illness: a path in literature and jurisdiction, to be treated, implies and requires, by the students, the reading of literary texts (not only Italian), of critical texts and legal texts, as well as the consultation / viewing of heterogeneous materials (such as, for example, documentaries, interviews, films).
The following are an integral part of the exam program:
1. all the texts that are indicated in the Exam Texts section;
2. all the materials indicated in the Bibliography and teaching material section.

Durante il corso la docente prenderà in esame anche passi di altri autori (non solo di ambito italiano) e si servirà di materiali eterogenei utili alla lettura e all’illustrazione del tema in argomento: tutto ciò costituisce il materiale didattico. Esso fa parte integrante del programma d’esame e sarà reso disponibile tutto sulla pagina web del corso.
La Bibliografia è costituita:
- da questi due volumi:Marco Santagata, Boccaccio. Fragilità di un genio, Milano, Mondadori 2019 e Ernesto Ferrero, Primo Levi. La vita, le opere, Torino, Einaudi, 1999.
- da una serie di brevi saggi critici che saranno indicati nelle dispense del corso come 'lettura obbligatoria'.Alcuni di quei saggi saranno consultabili direttamente on line, altri, invece, saranno forniti dalla docente in formato .pdf e pubblicati sulla pagina web del corso.
During the course the teacher will also refer to other authors and other texts (not specifically literary and not only in the Italian context: for example, provisions of laws, pages of works by Franco Basaglia) and will use heterogeneous materials useful for reading and to the illustration of the topic in question: all this constitutes the teaching material. It is an integral part of the exam program and everything will be made available on the course web page.
The Bibliography consists of a series of short critical essays that will be indicated gradually during the course: at the end of the lessons a detailed list of the contributions which must be read will be provided. Some of those essays will be available directly online, while others will be provided by the teacher in .pdf format and published on the course web page.
I non frequentanti dovranno preparare tutto il Programma del corso e studiare i materiali didattici e la bibliografia. Dovranno però, anche, presentare la lezione seminariale di cui si è detto nel campo Modalità di verifica delle conoscenze. Ogni studente non frequentante deve inoltre contattare direttamente (via mail) la docente per concordare con lei i testi d'esame e la bibliografia in più, nonché l’argomento della lezione seminariale che dovrà tenere.

The examination procedure is oral. The interview will last 20–30 minutes and will be aimed at ascertaining that a student’s knowledge, skills and behaviour correspond to those expected as described above. During the exam, students must prove that they know the texts in the programme, that they can comment on them and place them in the author's literary path and in the cultural coordinates of their historical period. Students will also have to be able to critically discuss the essays in the programme.

Il corso inizierà lunedì 19 settembre e si chiuderà martedì 20 dicembre 2022.
Le lezioni si svolgeranno in presenza.
Sebbene siano tre i giorni a settimana disponibili e assegnati per fare lezione, la docente farà lezione solo due volte alla settimana e durante la prima lezione fornirà tutte le indicazioni in merito. Il Seminario si terrà una volta a settimana. Date e orario delle lezioni saranno concordati in aula.

The course will start on Monday 28 February: 12.00-13.30 / AULA RM (Palazzo Ricci). The lessons will take place in person: but it will always be possible to follow them also in streaming through the Teams channel of the course (https://teams.microsoft.com/l/channel/19%3atmOEtXofOh930zlzOLBoHPfCSOSAvmchAQyj63tm-9k1%40thread.tacv2/Generale?generale? 5808ede3-6a25-46df-b2bf-655657771e8e & tenantId = c7456b31-a220-47f5-be52-473828670aa1). Although there are three days a week available and allocated for teaching, I will only take lessons twice a week: on Tuesdays (5.45pm-7.15pm, room B1) and on Wednesdays (5.45pm-7.15pm, room B2). The time and location on Monday remain reserved for the Didactics of Italian Literature course: we will make use of that space and time according to the calendar of seminars that we will agree together, in class, on Monday 28 February.
