Lo scopo principale del corso è di presentare l'estetica come disciplina filosofica e di fornire a studentesse e studenti una panoramica dei suoi problemi più importanti. Durante il corso verrà presentato un quadro generale delle principali correnti di pensiero e di autrici / autori che hanno contribuito a una definizione dell'estetica nel dibattito occidentale.
The primary aim of this course is to present aesthetics as a philosophical discipline, providing students with an outline of its most investigated questions and guiding themes. An overview of the main strands of thought and authors who had contributed to a definition of aesthetics in the Western debate will be offered.
La verifica delle conoscenze avverrà tramite:

3) presentazioni orali alla fine del corso
Knowledge will be tested by:

Il corso consisterà di letture, discussioni in classe e presentazioni individuali, da concordare con la docente.
La lezione sarà così strutturata: dopo una presentazione della docente avrà luogo una discussione collettiva dei temi appena affrontati. Durante la sua presentazione, la docente si riferirà a testi da leggere insieme.
Le ultime sei/otto ore del corso saranno dedicate alle presentazioni orali di studentesse e studenti, che dovranno concordare con la docente i temi che vogliono esplorare più a fondo.
The course will consist of readings, class discussions, and presentations, to be chosen in consultation with the lecturer.
The lecture will be structured as follows. After a presentation by the lecturer, a collective discussion of the topics just covered will take place. During the presentation, the lecturer will provide texts to read together.
The last six/eight hours of the course will be devoted to oral presentations by the students, who should agree with the lecturer on the topics they want to explore in-depth.
Il corso sarà diviso in due sezioni principali. Durante la prima parte del corso, di scopo introduttivo, percorreremo insieme la storia dell'estetica, dalla sua preistoria (Antichità e Rinascimento) alla sua effettiva fondazione come disciplina filosofica nel diciottesimo secolo.
La seconda sezione, invece, avrà carattere monografico e il suo tema sarà la relazione di estetica e genere. In questa sezione del corso i concetti principali dell'estetica, già introdotti nella sezione precedente (tra cui bello, sublime e altri predicati estetici; gusto; ruolo dell'artista; la relazione ai sensi, ecc.), saranno discussi sotto l'ottica della questione di genere.
The course will be divided into two main sections. During the first part of the course, whose scope will be introductory, the history of aesthetics will be briefly covered, from its “prehistory” (Antiquity and the Renaissance) to its actual foundation as a philosophical discipline in the 18th century.
The second section, on the other hand, will be monographic and have the relation between aesthetics and gender as its theme. In this part of the course the main concepts of aesthetics, already introduced in the first part (such as beauty, sublime, and other aesthetic predicates; taste; the role of the artist; the relation to senses; etc.), will be discussed in light of gender issues.
Durante la prima sezione del corso, la docente provvederà gli studenti con una selezione di brevi testi di autori diversi. Alcuni di questi testi si trovano nell'antologia S.D. Ross (a cura di), Art and Its Significance (SUNY Press, New York 1994).
Relativamente alla seconda sezione del corso, il testo obbligatorio è: C. Korsmeyer, Gender and Aesthetics: An Introduction (Routledge, London-New York 2004).
Come testo introduttivo per i temi principali dell'estetica, è consigliabile affidarsi a: B. Nanay, Aesthetics: A Very Short Introduction, Oxford University Press, Oxford 2019.
In the first section of the course, the lecturer will provide the students with a selection of brief texts from different authors. Some of these texts can be found in the anthology edited by S.D. Ross, Art and Its Significance (SUNY Press, New York 1994).
For the second section of the course, it is mandatory to read: C. Korsmeyer, Gender and Aesthetics: An Introduction (Routledge, London-New York 2004).
As an introductory text to aesthetics, it is suggested to read: B. Nanay, Aesthetics: A Very Short Introduction, Oxford University Press, Oxford 2019.
Frequenza obbligatoria.
Attendance is compulsory.
Il voto finale sarà basato sulla qualità della partecipazione durante le lezioni (40%), la presentazione individuale alla fine del corso (30%) ed esame finale.
L'esame finale si terrà in forma orale.
Nel sistema italiano, il voto più alto è 30
The final mark will be based on the quality of your attendance and participation (40%), critical presentations during the course (30%), and final exam (30%).
The final exam will be an oral exam.
In the Italian system, the highest possible grade is 30.
